As the HP help is otherly hopeless and they have absolutely no solutions for most of the driver issues... I have spent countless hours trying the solutions they present... Here is the solution:

The driver section on the official Hp site is outdated, find below the link to driver version 5.1.1 that works with Monterey 12.3.1

Hope this will avoid others from losing time with the HP "unSupport" !

I have the same problem, when trying to connect my old HP Laserjet P1102 with usb to my new iMac with OS 12.3.1. The recommended soulution with HP Smart doesn´t work because it only searches for bluetooth/wife, not usb connections.
