Hello,
I am having the same issue but with an HP Photosmart D110 printer, which, as far as I can tell, is not supported by gutenprint/gimpprint. I have tried reinstalling the driver software several times, and even gave gimpprint 5.3 a try with no luck. Any advice soon would be appreciated! I rely on this printer for school.

It worked. On my Macs that I didn't try to "fix" by reinstalling the printers, it was instant. On those that I deleted the printer and reinstalled, I had to do a bit more. But even the scanner is working now on my Photosmart Premium C309a ... THANK YOU for the information! Hopefully this lasts a while!

Well, this did work for my old HP PSC 1610, but not quite for my modestly newer HP Deskjet 3054A. The latter looks like it's about to print, but then immediately says it is waiting for the printer to become available and gets stuck. I tried resetting the printing system, but that didn't work either.

Bryan -You get a Gold Star!! iMac, Catalina 10.15.7, psc 2510. Now working as before. Don't know how you got the information, but we ALL owe you many thanks. Looks like I can leave the new Canon Pixma (delivered tomorrow) in the box for a while

Do what I suggested before:
The solution is to download (and install) this package (From HP FTP) which will update drivers AND THE CERTIFICATE:
ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software12/HP_Quick_Start/osx/Installations/Essentials/hp-printer-essen...
The install takes a bit. Let it run, even if it seems like it stalled out!
It is NOT the same as the driver package, Easy Start, or Easy Admin other people are recommending.
If the link comes up blank, try right/control clicking and saving it (it takes a while to download, and a while to install). If you install this package and still have trouble, try restarting. Then go about uninstalling your printer USING THIS METHOD ONLY (NOT EASY START, NOT EASY ADMIN): Apple Logo (Upper Left of Screen)/System Preferences/Printers & Scanners. Then restart your computer. The reinstall using the same menu in Printers & Scanners and use the default driver.
If you still can't find the printer, install the 5.1 driver package from HP: https://support.apple.com/kb/dl1888?locale=en_US
Then restart and try to install again through the Printers & Scanners menu.
Easy Admin did nothing. Easy Startup did nothing. 5.1 drivers did nothing. This worked for me!
Thumbs up if it helped you.
If that doesn't work, start a new thread, and PM me with the link, and I'll help you there.
