Hi Im using MacbookPro M1 and have trouble using the HP Smart app. The app cannot find my HP Ink Tank 315 Printer. I am using a hub but my laptop can detect the printer just fine. It's the app that cant. Does anyone know how to resolve this? The printer is not a wireless one so I cant use Airprint for it

Welcome to the HP Support Community.
The HP Smart App works only on a wireless connection.

When you connect the printer USB cable, macOS automatically installs and adds your printer to provide basic printing functionality.
-
Click the Apple icon
, click System Preferences, and then click Software Update. Install any available updates, and then restart your Mac.
-
Make sure there is an open USB port available directly on your computer. If you use a USB hub or docking station, the printer might not receive enough power to operate properly.
-
Click the Apple icon
, click System Preferences, and then click Printers & Scanners, Print and Scan, or Print and Fax.
-
If your printer displays in the list, select it, and then click the Minus sign
to remove the printer.
-
Connect the printer USB cable to the computer.
-
If prompted to download new software, follow the instructions to install it.
-
Confirm your printer is listed under Printers.
-
If your printer is in the list, the setup is complete.
-
If your printer is not in the list, continue with these steps.
-
-
Click the Plus sign
, click Add Printer or Scanner, and then select the name of your printer.
-
From the Use or Print Using drop-down menu, select AirPrint or Secure AirPrint, and then click Add.
If AirPrint is not an available option, select the printer name, or click Select Software to choose a driver.

All of the suggestions here does not work at all. Can you please tell us if the printer is not compatible with M1? It detects the printer, but it does not print. But when I use my windows laptop, it does print.

Hi again, I am finally able to print from my laptop. Here's what I did
1) Download and install this (from apple website)
https://support.apple.com/kb/DL1888?locale=en_IN
2) Add the printer in system preferences
3) Choose the software.
(I randomly picked the software for Hp Deskjet Ink Advantage although my printer is Hp Ink Tank 😅 )
But it works and I can print without any problem. This will do for now since i'm quite desperate to use the printer.
Still hoping for the exact software / driver though
