I seem to be suffering the same issue many others are having after having upgraded my Mac OS to Monterey.
My HP OfficeJet Pro 8710 works: it can scan, is connected to my wireless network, can run diagnostics, etc. It can do everything except print from any type of source, including mobile sources like an iPhone.
I have tried all the HP suggested solutions, but nothing works. When a file is sent to the printer, it just hangs in the printing queue. The HP Smart software says that “Maintenance In Progress” for the status in the Printer Information tab. Likewise, the Home Screen states the same message. Once I cancel the print job, the status reverts back to “Ready.”
Anyone know of a reliable fix? Is HP doing something to correct this?

@Coffeemate68, Welcome to the HP Support Community! I’m here to help.
I understand you are not able to print. Try making a standalone copy from the flatbed glass and check if that works. By this, we can conclude if this is a hardware or a driver issue.
Update the printer firmware
Click here to download and install the latest printer firmware from your Mac.
Click here to know different methods of updating printer firmware.
Also, check for any software updates on Mac
Click the Apple icon > About This Mac > Software Update and install any available update.
Perform a ping test to check the connectivity
- Obtain the IP address of the printer by clicking on the Wireless icon on the printer
- Open a new Terminal window (it's located in Applications > Utilities, or you can just start typing it in Spotlight).
- Enter “ping” followed by the IP address of the printer.
- Press Return. Press ctrl C after 10 pings
- There should be 0% packet loss, share the results in your next post.
Install the printer using AirPrint driver and check if that helps
1.) Click the Apple menu, click System Preferences, and then click Print & Scan or Printers & Scanners.
2.) Check if your printer name displays in the Printers list, If your printer is listed, click the printer name, click the minus sign to delete the printer.
3.) If you see multiple printer queues for the same printer, remove all extra printers by selecting them one at a time, and then clicking the minus button at the bottom of the list.
4.) Click the plus sign click Add Printer or Scanner, click the printer name.
5.) Click the Use or Print Using menu, select AirPrint in the pop-up menu. Then click Add.
Note: Select "Bonjour multifunction" under kind while installing.
Try printing.
Hope this helps! Let me know how it goes.
Please click “Accept as Solution” if you feel my post solved your issue, it will help others find the solution.

Hi. None of the above solutions worked at all. My printer shows up..and has a green light, the second I hit 'print' it turns yellow, and everything waits in queue until it tells me that no communication to printer. I've downloaded latest drivers and firmware, but I think it needs to be updated for Monterey 12.1. My printer was working fine up until the latest iOS upgrade to Monterey. Any help would be great.

Did you install the printer using the AirPrint driver and try printing without using any HP apps?
Here we are not using a printer driver, but using Apple's inbuilt driver.
Let me know how it goes.

I had to remove (uninstall) all HP software.
I then had to connect via USB (could not get ethernet "Bonjour" connection to print, although could find and "set up" printer).
I had to install with "Generic PCL" settings. AirPlay did not work.
So, I'm having to use this printer on a macOS Catalina computer (out of date) and only via USB.
I have yet to see whether sharing the printer on the network will give me any satisfaction from my up to date Monterey computer.
I'll have to wait and see, as two large print jobs have been waiting for DAYS!

I understand you have tried several ways. But, did you try what I mentioned in my post?
If yes, and the issue persists, I think this issue needs some additional technical assistance that can be better provided through one-on-one interaction or a remote session with our HP Support team.
Please reach out to the HP Technical Support team in your region for further assistance.
You may create a case on the website to obtain a case number if required. Kindly watch this video to know how.
Keep me posted for any other assistance.

Hi,
I had the same problem but with HP 2520HC. I've found the solution by doing some simple steps.
First step - clean up all your hp drivers from your Mac by this uninstall tool - https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c06960563
Second step - Paste this code into your terminal
curl -o ~/Desktop/hpdrivers.dmg https://updates.cdn-apple.com/2020/macos/001-41745-20201210-DBC9B46B-88B2-4032-87D9-449AF1D20804/HewlettPackardPrinterDrivers.dmg hdiutil attach ~/Desktop/hpdrivers.dmg pkgutil --expand /Volumes/HP_PrinterSupportManual/HewlettPackardPrinterDrivers.pkg ~/Desktop/hp-expand hdiutil eject /Volumes/HP_PrinterSupportManual sed -i '' 's/12.0/13.0/' ~/Desktop/hp-expand/Distribution pkgutil --flatten ~/Desktop/hp-expand ~/Desktop/HP_Monterey_Driver.pkg rm -R ~/Desktop/hp-expand
This code makes you able to download the driver package onto you Mac desktop. Then just install the driver and you good to go.

Hello @kumar0307, I had the exact same issue with my HP OfficeJet Pro 9020 ... Printer was displayed and present but unable to print ... it was launching the print then saying "Looking for printer" without being able to print anything.
I have used the "AirPlay" procedure as you mention above ... in MacOS, this is using the second icon on the middle of the 2 others on the Printer settings popup :
... and that way it works.
But usually, as HP users, we do use the "HP Smart" App installation which normally installs the drivers ... and here it looks like using that procedure, drivers are missing. Once you have installed "HP Smart" (link : HP Smart ) , you go to MAcOS printer settings, ans select the first icon :
... and here something goes wrong as yesterday, my printer was showed in the table, but the last line at the bottom of the popup was not showing the printer name, like there was no found driver ... today it shows but as "offline" printer ...
So I would like to know from there is it using something different than Airplay, is it using HP drivers and maybe the HP drivers are not available for Monterey or ... ???
Many Thanks !
