How can I adjust the margin/border  settings on my 7720 printer ... in some in

Welcome to the HP Community --

========================================

Document margins / borders are generally created and managed as part of the original document.

For example, Word documents include all the settings for Page Size, Margins, and Borders.

Print borders -- slightly different animal - can be added when the document is printed in Word.

========================================

PDF documents have -- in general -- inherit the document margins from the original document format, for example Word document).

Borders, if added to the original document are exported to the PDF format file along with any other Word structures that can be translated to PDF.

========================================

Photo / Image file margins are generally part of the photo / image in the sense that the edge of the image is also the border.  True, there are some ways to add borders to photos / images -- that is not likely the question you are asking here.

Print margins and borders are generally adjusted in the application or software you are using to open, view, configure, and submit the job to the printer.

========================================

Apps are convenient, generally easy to sue, and include some basic editing and print options.

The results are less about managing margins than how the image is cropped or fit to the paper.

Borderless counts as a "border" in that when the printer supports Borderless, this option can be selected with certain paper sizes and types.

General Example - HP Smart - Windows - Simple Photo Print - sized print on larger paper

Windows

 Most third party print software, and printing on this printer in A3, requires (or at the least, benefits) from having the Full Feature Software / full driver software installed on the computer.

Having installed the Full Driver printer software also needs to have Printer Properties (tab Advanced) set to point to HP driver software as opposed to the plain Windows / IPP drivers.

Example - Category Software & Drivers

Details Page - Driver - For your Printer

>>> Full Feature Software - Web Pack Installation Package - Information - Download / Save / (then) Install <<<

AND after installing the main software > Restart computer > add this Update:

If asked, opt for the Full Driver to be installed.

After the software is installed, Restart the computer and sign in.

The installation of the full driver generally adds at least one, possibly two shortcuts to the Desktop.

 Note Printer Assistant, HP Scan Assistant, and HP Scan are dependent on printer model and supported software options.

Thanks Dragon-Fur

Your comments are valuable.

I understand the print margins in Word ad how they translate to PDF's etc. When I print an email or a document I import, the HP7720 chops off the top of the print area ... it is as if I sent margins and print areas that are in conflict with some master or default settings within the printer!  It is frustrating, when I print  the monthly account from Telstra ... the printer chops off the top of the Telstra logo in top left and the top of the letters "YOUR TELSTRA BILL" on the top right.  It happens with other things too.

You are welcome.

General Maintenance...

Make sure the printer is clean and ready to do its best work.

What else?

Try adjusting the document to fit onto the paper.

For example,

Page Size & Handling >> Fit, or Shrink oversized pages

Example Windows - Adobe Reader DC - Print PDF

 Word – Document Scale

Trouble with labels and possibly with other documents that include mixed content types:

Document Scale

There is a setting in Word that will "scale" a document for Letter / A4 paper.

If you are having alignment issues with your document (for example, labels, bottom of page chopped), UNCHECK this setting.

When printing directly from within Word

Setup:

Word > FileOptions > Advanced

In Section Print (about 2/3 of the way down)

UNCHECK "Scale content for A4 or 8.5 x 11" paper sizes

Click OK to save changes

Perhaps try a different app --
