LaserJet 1018
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

When my  HP computer just updated Windows 10 it no longer recognizes my HP LaserJet 1018.  the printer still works just fine so I don't want to get a new one, but how can I get it to connect to the computer or be recognized by the computer?  Could it be the cable is bad or do I need to download something?  I'm not very computer savvy, so I really need help!

Welcome to the HP support community.

 

Perform root level uninstallation to remove all the printer related software's.

  • In Windows, search for and open Programs and Features.
  • Select your HP printer.
  • Select Uninstall.
  • In Windows, search for and open Devices and Printers.
  • In the Devices and Printers window look for your HP Printer. If you see it listed, right-click on it and choose "Delete" or "Remove Device.”
  • Open up the run command with the "Windows Key + R" key combo.
  • Type printui.exe /s and click OK.
  • Click on Drivers tab.
  • Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it click on it and click Remove at the bottom.
  • Select OK.
  • Remove all instances of the same.
  • Select Apply and OK on the Print Server Properties windows.
  • Close Devices and Printers. 
  • Restart the PC again.

Install the printer using Windows builtin driver

Update the printer firmware

Thank you so much.  Earlier this week I was able to reach HP and I was put in touch with a tech who took over my computer and in a few minutes solved the problem.  It only took a few clicks, to my amazement!  We did this before I saw your answer, but I will refer to your answer if I have problems in the future.
