Hi there, I have 3 MacBook Pro's and the two new M1 MBP's have never been able to print with my HP Officejet Pro 8710 Printer and nothing I try is working.
All 3 are working with Monterrey OS 12.1. I have been able to get the old MBP printing but nothing works for the M1 MBP's.
I couldn't even find the HP Smart app where indicated to remove it at the root level.
WHAT is the solution?!?!

@quintonjones, Welcome to the HP Support Community! I’m here to help.
The HP Smart app is not a driver and cannot be uninstalled like other drivers. It is just an app that can be removed in one click. No root level uninstallation is required.
- Do you get any errors while trying to print?
- Have you tried printing different types of documents like PDF, Word, or Webpages and check if the issue persists?
- Make sure the printer and the Mac are connected to the same wireless network. Either 2.4 or 5GHz network.
- If you have a Dual-band router and both 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks share the same name/SSID, the printer will not be able to connect to the network. In this case, contact your Internet service provider to assign different names to both networks.
You may use the HP Easy Scan app to scan from the Mac.
Update the printer firmware
Click here to download and install the latest printer firmware from your Mac.
Click here to know different methods of updating printer firmware.
Also, check for any software updates on Mac
Click the Apple icon > About This Mac > Software Update and install any available update.
Install the printer using the AirPrint driver for printing (recommended)
1.) Click the Apple menu, click System Preferences, and then click Print & Scan or Printers & Scanners.
2.) Check if your printer name displays in the Printers list, If your printer is listed, click the printer name, click the minus sign to delete the printer.
3.) If you see multiple printer queues for the same printer, remove all extra printers by selecting them one at a time, and then clicking the minus button at the bottom of the list.
4.) Click the plus sign click Add Printer or Scanner, click the printer name.
5.) Click the Use or Print Using menu, select AirPrint in the pop-up menu. Then click Add.
Note: Select "Bonjour multifunction" under kind while installing.
Try printing.
Hope this helps! Let me know how it goes.

with Monterey the 'HP OfficeJet 8700 All-in-One Fax' is supported out of the Box, this driver is working but don't support all features
full support you. will get with the HP driver update, you get here:
ftp:// ftp.hp.com /pub/softlib/software12/HP_Quick_Start/osx/Installations/Essentials/macOS12/hp-printer-essentials-G-5_16_5_5.pkg
the Easy Setup App from HP is not working well, for me it shows only the driver name, but don't start downloading... so I start downloading the file manually
and because of this useless security features of macOS (they are now paranoid at Apple!) you have to install this file this way:
1) double-click driver pkg to start installation
2) will finish with error... ist ok, but important: DON'T delete installer file 😉
3) open the Security panel at System Setting, authorize you as admin and allow start of HP app
4) double-click driver pkg to start installation a second time
5) could finish with error... ist ok, but important: DON'T delete installer file, you could still need this file later...
6) restart your Mac and connect your printer from System Setting
much success, cheers

... one more: you have to check if 'Rosetta 2' is installed!
The best way to check and force installation initiate by macOS is to start a Intel binary. For example, I download and run 'Waterfox Browser for Intel', this is one App I know they have different binarys, many others are 'Universal' or native, don't initiate installation.
