HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP 3301sdw
Microsoft Windows 11

This multi function printer will not scan at all - it fails to recognize the default username & password combination.

I have reset the factory defaults, tried to install it on several different PCs, used the HP app, used the webserver directly in the browser, reset the default settings, completely uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers and software, absolutely nothing works. I did not ever change the default password, following the instructions and all of the work arounds here on the troubleshooting have been completely useless and a complete waste of time.

I have installed the totally useless HP Support Solutions program - it is a waste of time and resources. none of these options work - I never changed the default password, I have completely reinstalled the HP Software and drivers for this MFP , gone into the settings and restored factory defaults multiple times - it still will not accept the default password and will not let me scan anything - this has NEVER worked and makes this unit completely non-functional. If I had known that HP would refuse to provide support past 90days for a non-functioning printer right out of the box I would never have wasted money on it.

Hi @dqstarter,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I understand your frustration, especially since you have already gone through factory resets, multiple PCs, HP software and driver reinstalls, the HP app, and the printer's Embedded Web Server, yet scanning has never worked correctly. I don't want to send you through the same troubleshooting steps again.

Since the issue appears to be specifically related to the username and password being rejected, we need to establish exactly which login screen you are seeing and which credentials you are entering.

Could you please provide the following?

  • What username are you entering?
  • What password are you entering? Please do not post your actual personal/account password here. If you are using a password printed on the printer label, tell us that rather than posting the full value.
  • Where are you being asked for the credentials: the printer control panel, HP App, Embedded Web Server (EWS), or Windows scan software?
  • What is the exact error/message displayed after the username and password are entered?
  • If possible, please provide a photo or screenshot of the login prompt and error message, with any personal information or passwords hidden.
  • When you say the printer will not scan, are you trying to use Scan to Computer, Scan to Network Folder, Scan to Email, or scanning from the computer's HP software?
  • Can the printer print and copy normally?
  • If you have found a particular HP troubleshooting procedure or workaround that instructs you to use a specific username/password, please paste those instructions here. We can then check exactly what credentials that procedure is referring to.

One important distinction is whether the rejected credentials are for the printer's Embedded Web Server administrator login or for a particular scan destination/account. Those are not necessarily the same credentials, so I don't want to assume which password is required in your case.

Once you provide the exact login prompt/error and the username being used, along with the HP instructions you have already followed, we can focus on the actual authentication problem rather than repeating the resets and reinstallations you have already completed.

Take care and have an amazing day!

I'm an HP Employee.
