Hi. I have just bought an HP 3835 printer which will only print in monochrome. According to HP and various threads there should be a setting in properties or preferences that can be changed between monochrome, greyscale and colour.
BUT there are no such settings in the printer properties or preferences of my printer.
I have uninstalled the printer and the software twice and have just deleted and reinstalled the printer drivers today - to no avail.
The printer is - hpoj_3830.gpd, GPD verion 1.0 and the driver is - Unidrv Driver, Version 10.0.17763.1
Advice would be very much appreciated..

Hi! @RodgerR, Thank you for visiting the HP Forums! A great place where you can find solutions for your issues, with help from the community!
Have you tried printing from a different application? Does the issue persist?
Does the issue persist when you make a copy from your printer?
Have you tried checking with a different ink cartridge?
Are you using HP genuine ink cartridges?
Try replacing the low, empty or faulty ink cartridges on the printer.
Please try few steps recommended below.
Clean the ink cartridges
Use an automatic tool to clean the ink cartridges from the printer control panel, then evaluate the results.
NOTE:
To avoid issues that require cleaning, always turn the printer off with the Power button.
Make sure to load the input tray with plain, white paper.
On the printer control panel, swipe the display to the left, then touch Setup.
Touch Tools, then touch Clean Cartridges.
Examine the print quality on the Print Quality Diagnostic report.
If the print quality is acceptable, click No. You can stop troubleshooting.
If the print quality is unacceptable, click Yes when prompted to perform the next level of cleaning.
NOTE:
If the printhead is badly clogged, it might require another cleaning cycle. If so, wait 30 minutes before you perform both levels of cleaning again.
If the issue still persists uninstall the printer software from the root level on the PC and install the full feature printer software.
In Windows, search for and open Programs and Features.
Select your HP printer.
Select Uninstall.
In Windows, search for and open Devices and Printers.
In the Devices and Printers window look for your HP Printer. If you see it listed, right-click on it and choose "Delete" or "Remove Device.”
Open up the run command with the "Windows Key + R" key combo.
Type printui.exe /s and click OK.
Click on Drivers tab.
Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it click on it and click remove at the bottom.
Select OK.
Select Apply and OK on the Print Server Properties windows.
Close Devices and Printers.
Update the full feature printer software using this link: Click Here
Refer this article to further troubleshoot print quality issues with the printer. Click Here
Let me know if this works!
Have a great day ahead! 🙂

It is interesting when you get a "standard reply" to a query that shows that you are either getting a reply from a machine or that the human replier cannot be bothered to read the issue fully!
Being advised to change the Monochrome - Colour setting -
"
Black and White: If you want to print in black and white only, select the grayscale option.
After selecting the print settings, click OK to apply the settings, and then click Print."
- is less than helpful when I stated in my first post that these setting did not exist in my printer's print settings!
I have however, solved the problem by yet again uninstalling all the HP software and asking windows to find the printer and install suitable software.
Clearly the HP software (online or on the disc suppied with the printer) was not the correct software for the printer.
If a real human fron HP reads this then perhaps they can apply a fix to avoid others going through this hassle.

@RodgerR, I hope you went through the document completely.
You have to disable the black and white option if it enabled under the print settings to print in colour.
Also, I have suggested in my post to uninstall and reinstall the drivers. As it sounded like a driver issue.
If you have followed the steps correctly you could have solved without many hazels.
Also, If you have any queries in future related to any HP products, you can always reach out to us.
We will try our best to help you out.
Take care,
Have a great day!

Unbelieveable!
Despite my rant about my issue not being read properly and therefore not being reponded to correctly - and having stated that I managed to resolve the situation myself - i have now received more incorrect advice!
"You have to disable the black and white option if it enabled under the print settings to print in colour"
For the sake of clarity - again, my issue was that this print setting did not exist in the printer's software and that therefore I could not alter settings that did not exist!

Thanks RogerR for the tip; like you, I was getting nowhere fast with the support staff, sadly. I'd uninstalled, reinstalled ad nauseam, but letting Windows do its thing has resolved the problem (although I don't seem to have colour options in the Print settings, so only have basic colour printing).
