I am trying to connect this printer to my macbook but it is not detected by the HP app. This printer is easily connected to wifi and can print through Apple's default printing option. The issue is that, I want to scan some documents which can only be done if it is connected to the app. Since HP now owns samsung printers, I could not find any other ways to connect. If someone has a solution to this, it would be really helpful. I tried on iPhone too and have exact same issue.

@Sam_Zor, Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding the Samsung Xpress SL-M2880FW Laser Printer.

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution. We hope our assistance has been helpful!

To connect your Samsung Xpress SL-M2880FW Laser Multifunction Printer to your MacBook Air M2, you can follow these steps:

Step-by-Step Instructions:

  1. Download Drivers
  2. Go to HP Software and Driver Downloads.
  3. Search for your printer model "Samsung Xpress SL-M2880FW" and download the latest print and scan drivers for macOS.

  4. Connect via USB or Wireless

  5. USB Connection:
    • Connect a USB cable from the printer to your MacBook Air M2.
  6. Wireless Connection:

  7. Easy Wireless Setup

  8. Launch the Wireless Setting application.
  9. Follow the on-screen instructions to connect your printer to a wireless network:

    • Start the wireless setup and, if prompted, connect your printer and Mac using a USB cable temporarily.
    • Search and select your wireless network from the list displayed in the app.
    • Enter the network security key if required, and complete the setup.
  10. Add Printer to MacBook

  11. Go to "System Preferences" on your MacBook Air M2.
  12. Open "Printers & Scanners."
  13. Click the "+" button to add a new printer.
  14. Your Samsung Xpress SL-M2880FW should appear in the list if connected properly. Select it and add the printer.

  15. Print a Test Page

  16. Once added, you can print a test page to confirm that your printer is set up and functioning correctly.

I hope this helps!

Take care and have an amazing day!

Hello,

Thank you for your response. The issue is not "connecting the printer to my MacBook", it is already connected and I can print. The issue is that the HP app does not recognize this printer (other HP printers can be easily detected by the app, I have another HP 2742e that connects to the app seamlessly). The native app on Mac does not have all the functions ( ex: ID scan, Scan directly to a shared folder, customize the scan settings etc.). Can HP help to share a link where I can download 'Samsung Easy Printer Manager' software for Mac ? or provide alternate solution to connect printer to HP smart APP ?

Please note that, I have tried both wired and wireless connecting options, removed and reinstalled HP Smart App, remove and reset the printer several times. I have also tried to connect using iPhone and iPad, none of these option work. Appreciate your feedback.

Thanks for clarifying @Sam_Zor. Since the printer already prints, the issue is app support, not connectivity.

On macOS, HP Smart does not support all legacy HP Samsung printers and will not detect them even if printing works. This is a known limitation of the app, not a setup issue. Reinstalling, switching wired or wireless, or trying iOS devices will not change this.

Samsung Easy Printer Manager for Mac is no longer supported on current macOS versions and is not officially provided for many models anymore. There is no supported way to integrate those printers into HP Smart.

Recommended alternatives on Mac

  • Use HP Easy Scan from the Mac App Store for advanced scan options
  • Use Image Capture built into macOS for direct scanning and folder selection

In short, HP Smart cannot be made to recognize this printer on macOS, and there is no supported replacement for Samsung Easy Printer Manager. The workaround is to use macOS native scanning tools.

Thread left open for updates, but this is expected behavior on current macOS.

Take care and have an amazing day!
