Hi @Missmoo1

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I’m sorry the HP ENVY 6555 is showing a Feeder Jam during the initial setup even though the document feeder is empty. Since this is a new printer and setup cannot continue, let’s work through the document-feeder area carefully before considering a return.

Clear the Feeder Jam message

Check the document feeder

  • Remove anything from the document feeder input tray.
  • Open the document feeder cover.
  • Carefully inspect the complete paper path for any packing material, small paper fragments, labels, or other objects.
  • Check around the rollers and document feeder output area.
  • Close the document feeder cover firmly so it sits fully in place.

Clean the document feeder rollers

  • Turn off the printer and disconnect the power cord.
  • Open the document feeder cover.
  • Lightly dampen a clean, lint-free cloth with distilled or filtered water and squeeze out excess water.
  • Gently wipe the document feeder pickup rollers and separator pad.
  • Leave the document feeder open for about 2 minutes to allow these parts to dry.
  • Close the cover securely.

Reset the HP ENVY 6555

  • With the printer turned off, disconnect its power cord.
  • Unplug the cord from the power source.
  • Wait 60 seconds.
  • Connect the power cord directly to a wall outlet and reconnect it to the printer.
  • Turn the printer on and allow it to initialize.

Resume printer setup

  • Once the Feeder Jam message clears, continue your setup.
  • If necessary, reopen the HP App, select the printer, and continue the remaining setup process.

The important point is that a jam message does not necessarily mean paper is visibly stuck. HP specifically notes that its ENVY 6500-series printers can display a paper-jam condition when no jammed paper is present, and its troubleshooting applies to both real and false jam conditions.

If the Feeder Jam message remains immediately after these checks and the reset, particularly on a printer fresh out of the box, I would avoid repeatedly forcing or manipulating the document-feeder mechanism.

Take care, and have an amazing day!
