Hey HP Community,
My laptop’s touchpad is not working at all. I’ve already tried a few things:
Installed manual drivers from HP’s official site – didn’t work.
Tried using third-party driver updater tools – but they didn’t even detect the touchpad.
Checked “Mice and other pointing devices” in Device Manager – no touchpad driver shows up.
Looked in “Hidden devices” too – still nothing.
Ran Windows Update – no new updates available.
Is there any other way to bring back the touchpad functionality? Could this be a BIOS issue or something deeper? Please guide me with possible solutions.
Thanks in advance!

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.
It seems you've already tried several common troubleshooting steps for fixing touchpad issues, including updating drivers manually from HP's official site and checking Device Manager. Here are some additional steps you can take to try to resolve the issue:
Check BIOS Settings: Sometimes the touchpad can be disabled at the BIOS level. Restart your laptop and access the BIOS settings (often by pressing a key like Esc, F2, or Del during boot-up). Look for touchpad settings there and ensure it's enabled.
Enable Touchpad:
- Press function key combinations like Fn + F7 or whichever corresponds to enabling the touchpad on your model.
- Double-check that there isn’t a physical button or switch located near the touchpad that disables it.
Check System Configuration:
- Go to Control Panel > Mouse. Check if the touchpad is listed under the device settings and ensure it’s enabled.
- In Windows 10, you can also check by going to Settings > Devices > Touchpad. Make sure the touchpad is turned on.
Update Chipset Drivers: Sometimes, the chipset drivers control the touchpad functionality. Visit the HP Software and Driver Downloads page, search for your specific model, and update the chipset drivers if available.
Perform a System Reset: If none of the above steps work, consider performing a system reset to revert back to factory settings. This can sometimes resolve hardware detection issues, but ensure you back up your data first.
HP Support Assistant: Utilize the HP Support Assistant to check for device-related issues. It can automatically detect and resolve various problems.
If these steps do not resolve the issue, it might be a hardware-related problem, and you should consider contacting HP support or visiting a certified service center for further diagnosis.
