HP LaserJet M110we Printer
macOS 12.0 Monterey

I bought this printer in Jan'22. Despite all the reviews, I thought it's only $100, how bad could it be? Oh boy, was I wrong. This is the worst printer I have ever used in my entire life. I have yet to be able to print anything from it. Spent hours on hours trying to set it up, entering, re-entering and entering in again the product name, the product no., the serial no. All for it NEVER to work. I have worked in corporate America for 15 years. I grew up with the interest and tech. My co-workers come to me to troubleshoot their tech and I don't even work in IT. I live on a PC during the day and my personal Mac at night.

Connect the printer to a wireless network with internet access. Download on your device the HP Smart app.

The printer and computer must be on the same wireless network with internet access. Run the HP Smart app, and register your printer with your HP account.

INDEED THE WORST PRINTER EVER MADE!! It took my wife and I a whole day to install and it is still erratic

i can not agree more, we are all more or less tech savvy but they manage to build the most complicated printing interface ever.

Had a Japanese product beofre which was so easy and user friendly.

Horrible company , must be managed by these greedy executives who only cares about stock prices and their fat comp packages.

Try anything but HP

I have an HP OfficeJet 8020. Dissapointed that I didn't check this stuff out before purchasing last year. It's been horrible from day 1. Difficult to set up, have to frequently remove and set up again to get it to work, doesn't want to print envelopes because the paper size is wrong, but it doesn't like the paper size of the envelope either. No option to just automatically figure it out. My older Kodak printer, now defunct, was much easier to deal with. HP stinks. Don't buy their printers for another few years until they figure out that their current models and software don't work.

Hi @BillDang,

Welcome to the HP Support Community

I'd like to help!

Here are a few troubleshooting steps that can help resolve the common issues you're facing with your HP OfficeJet 8020.

1. Update the Printer's Firmware and Software

HP frequently releases updates to fix bugs and improve performance, which can resolve many connectivity and printing issues.

  • On the Printer: Go to the printer's control panel. Look for a Setup (gear icon ⚙️), Product Update, or Web Services menu and select Check for Updates.

  • On your Computer: Open the HP Smart app. If an update is available for your printer or the software itself, it will usually prompt you. You can also download the latest full-feature software and drivers directly from the official HP Support website for your specific model. Click here for more details

2. Reset the Printing System and Network

This can clear out old, corrupted data causing connection drops and the need to constantly reinstall.

  • Power Cycle Everything: Turn off your printer, computer, and Wi-Fi router. Wait for 60 seconds. Turn the router back on first and wait for it to fully connect to the internet. Then, turn on your printer and finally your computer. This simple step often re-establishes a stable connection.

  • Run the Network Test: On your printer's control panel, find the wireless settings and print a Wireless Network Test Report or Network Configuration Page. This report will tell you if the printer is properly connected to your network and highlight any signal or connectivity issues.

3. Fix the Envelope Paper Mismatch Error

This error almost always happens because the paper settings in your software don't exactly match the paper loaded in the tray.

  • Load the Envelope Correctly: Place the envelope in the paper tray according to the small diagram on the tray itself. Adjust the paper guides so they are snug against the envelope without bending it.

  • Match the Settings: When you go to print from your application (e.g., Microsoft Word, Google Docs), go to Page Setup or Print Properties. You must select the exact envelope size (e.g., #10 Envelope, C5 Envelope) from the paper size list.

  • Confirm on the Printer: After you send the print job, your printer's screen may ask you to confirm the paper size and type. Make sure what you select on the screen matches the envelope you loaded. The software setting and the printer's setting must match perfectly.

4. This is HP's official, free tool designed to automatically diagnose and fix a wide range of printing and scanning problems, including driver conflicts and connectivity errors.

  • Download the HP app from the HP support website.

  • Run the tool and select your printer. It will guide you through a series of automated checks and potential fixes. It's a powerful tool that can often find and resolve the root cause of the problem without you having to manually troubleshoot.

Thanks, let me know
