wi fi shorted out so i wired an ethernet cable to a pc hd port and it doesn't print

You will likely need to set a manual IP address on both the PC and your printer so that they can communicate. Normally the automatic setting of IP address is handled by what is called a DHCP server, in most homes or small business this would be the router. If no router is present the computer and printer will not be able to obtain an address automatically.
