HP Envy 6155e All-in-One Printer

Hi! I've been trying to print on 7.25x5.25 envelopes, and my printer does not seem to recognize them. I've tried everything, and I know it will print on envelopes because I was able to print my 4x6 envelopes without a problem. I selected the custom option, but that makes them print portrait style instead of landscape. I've wasted probably 30 envelopes trying to figure it out.

A7 Envelope → 5 ¼ X 7 ¼ inches

This printer supports this paper size as a custom paper size form.

The settings within Word to create an envelope are perhaps similar -- or at least recognizable -- regardless of whether you are using Windows or MacOS.

The Job Configuration example (later in this message) is based on that assumption (possibly wrong).

No Size?  If the size of the Paper Size is not included in the Drop-down list, consider / try:  Create a Custom Paper Size Form.

Load Paper / Load Media

Load the paper (envelopes) according to the instructions in the user guide.

User Guide – HP Envy 6100e Series – HP Envy 6500e Series

 Starting on Page 12

While you have the manual open, check the location of the Printer PIN

EWS - Tray and Paper

EWS > HP Document / How-to (InkJet Printers – Basic Information)

Use the HP printer Embedded Web Server (EWS)

NOTE:  Find printer IP address

Section Open the EWS over a local network orientation

OR

HP Laser Printers - Using the Printer Embedded Web Server (EWS)

-- Reminder --

If asked enter the printer’s PIN number –

The default PIN might be located on the back or inside the printer (ink access area).

See your printer's user guide for additional information.

Search the guide for “ PIN “

EWS – Tray and Paper Management / Paper > Trays

-- Notes --

Depending on the printer model, the Printer Control Panel touchscreen might provide access to Paper Size / Type settings immediately after the paper is (re)loaded into the appropriate printer intake tray or when the tray is opened and then closed.

Trays

  • If the printer lacks a second tray, all paper / types are supported in the single available tray.
  • Printers that include a Photo Tray generally restrict the paper sizes and paper type supported in that tray.

Custom size?

If your paper is a custom size, look for "Custom" in the full list of paper sizes.

Remember >> Printers with more than one tray might support custom paper sizes and types in just one of the available trays.

If EWS does not allow setting the paper size or size “Custom”,

and

If the printer includes a full-service printer control panel,

Look for the setting for “Custom” in the Printer Control Panel after (re)loading the paper to be used (might be the last entry in the list).

NOTE:  EWS Size Custom is not available for all printers

Open your Browser

Type / enter the Printer IP address into URL / Address bar

Note → If the browser security will not let you open EWS, try a different browser.

Next (as available)

Job Configuration -- Print Envelopes

Envelopes can be of a supported standard size or - if / as supported on the printer model -- a Custom size within the range of "custom sizes" supported by the printer.

Contributing factors include:

  • Plain paper
  • No scallops, exposed metal clips
  • No foil lined
  • White or cream color is best
  • Windows -- Word > Mailing > Envelopes printing requires the full driver printer software to have been installed to gain access to the full range of Printing Preferences
  • Windows - Custom Paper Size Form -- If /  As needed
  • Windows -- Printer Properties > Tab Advanced > Driver should be selected as the installed HP driver and NOT the Microsoft / IPP driver
  • Create Envelope - Setup

       --------- Reminders ---------

Word includes a Paper Tray setting that can impact your printing results.

If you are using the Options > Advanced print setup to select the Tray, make sure the setting is appropriate for your current print job (envelopes).

Adjust / Set the Default Tray to be used in Word

Word > File > Options > Advanced

Scroll down to Print

Select Default tray > Select OK to save and exit

----------------------------------------------------------

AND

Word → Mailings → Envelopes includes a Tray check / setting in Printing Options

Item in Sample → #6 E

----------------------------------------------------------
