Where do I find the option to print from the 2nd tray.  My main tray has stopped printing paper with any thickness at all including Avery shipping labels

Hi @wazzymoto,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand you want to print from the second paper tray because the main tray is no longer feeding thicker paper or labels. Let’s go through a few steps to check where to select the second tray and what could be affecting it.

Confirm the second tray is installed and recognized
Make sure Tray 2 is physically installed and fully seated in the printer.
Check the printer display or settings menu to confirm Tray 2 is listed as available.

Set the paper type and size for Tray 2
On the printer control panel, open Paper Settings or Tray Settings.
Assign the correct paper size and type (for example, Labels or Cardstock) to Tray 2.

Select Tray 2 from the print dialog
When printing, open Print > Printer Properties or Preferences.
Look for “Paper Source,” “Source,” or “Tray” and select Tray 2 explicitly.

Check application-specific print settings
Some apps override printer defaults.
In the app’s print dialog, make sure it is not set to “Automatically Select” or “Tray 1 only.”

Set Tray 2 as the default tray (optional)
Go to Devices and Printers > right-click the printer > Printing Preferences.
Set Tray 2 as the default paper source if you want all jobs to pull from it.

Verify label printing recommendations
Avery shipping labels should only be loaded in trays approved by the printer model.
Make sure the label type selected in print settings matches the paper loaded.

Clean the paper pickup rollers
Turn off and unplug the printer.
Use a lint-free cloth lightly dampened with water to clean the pickup rollers, then let them dry.

Test with plain paper from Tray 2
Print a simple document using plain paper to confirm Tray 2 feeds correctly.
If Tray 2 works but Tray 1 does not, the issue is likely Tray 1 pickup rollers.

I hope this helps.
