One more thing - after one of the attempts from the desktop. Dell injected a message that there was an error and the printer has been removed.  I could still see it on HP Smart, but the device manager no longer displayed it.

Yes 👍

Please, don´t use HP Smart!

Use the method to convert the connection through the HP Printer Setup & Software utility.

Where do I get that.  I don't see it on my list when I search HP.

I just re-ran the entire procedure.  I ran into the same minor errors, but I kept going.  The printer is now connected via USB and everything works - printing and scanning.  I reconnected the wifi on the printer and did not remove the USB connection.  My laptop is once again able to access the printer via wifi.  The only problem is no color on laptop printed docs.

Questions:  How do I get rid of the USB and use the wireless for my desktop.  The cable crosses in front of the entry door and someone is going to trip.

If I want to reinstall on my laptop - hoping to get color back - I have to follow the same procedure and use USB at first.  Again, how do I use wifi and get rid of the USB connection, because after re-install is done, the laptop will not reside in the same room as the printer.

right-click Start, search for "control panel" and open "Devices and Printers"

Take a screenshot of this and

upload here, click on the icon "Insert photos", "Set format = Large", original size at least 200 KB.

Here is my screen shot of devices & printers..  Couldn't get a photo, had to paste into doc.

Also including device manager since above doesn't provide much info.  Can't get it very big.  I hope you can read it.

I also found my original driver disk that came with the printer.  Would that help?
