Welcome to HP Support Community, @Ric-E-V

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Step 1: Connect the Printer Using an Ethernet Cable

The HP LaserJet Pro M402n does not support wireless connections, so it must be connected using an Ethernet cable.

Get a standard Ethernet cable.

Plug one end into the network port at the back of the printer.

Plug the other end into an available LAN port on your router or network switch.

Once connected, the printer will automatically try to obtain an IP address from your router.

Step 2: Verify Network Configuration

Ensure DHCP is Enabled on the Router
Your home router should have DHCP turned on so the printer can receive an IP address automatically. Most routers already have this enabled by default.

Check Printer Network Settings
In most home networks, the default printer network settings do not need to be changed. However, you can check DNS or proxy settings on the printer’s control panel if your network requires them.

Step 3: Install HP Software and Drivers

Go to the official HP Support website.

Search for “HP LaserJet Pro M402n drivers.”

Download and install the full feature software or the basic print driver.

Follow the installation steps so your computer can communicate with the printer over the network.

Step 4: Confirm the Network Connection

Print a Network Configuration Page
Use the printer control panel to print a network configuration page. This will show the IP address and network status.

Check the IP Address
Ensure the printer has received a valid IP address from your router (usually something like 192.168.x.x or 10.x.x.x).

Test Printing
Add the printer on your computer using the detected IP address and print a test page to confirm everything is working.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
