HP Smart isn't working for Wireless

HP Recommended
HP Envy 4520
macOS 10.15 Catalina

Hello!  Last week I started getting messages popping up sporadically saying that some HP apps that were dowloaded (whenever) were damaging my computer.  I took it to my technician who told me that they weren't necessary to the computer and to delete them and then go to the HP site and download the apps I needed for my printer again...which is what we did.

Now I'm getting new pop ups every time I try to print something out saying,

"You need to install software to use this printer. To install the software, choose App Store… from the Apple menu. If the software for your printer isn’t available in App Store…, contact the manufacturer of your printer."

I don't know how to fix this.  I've tried going to HP and using their virtual assistant and following their instructions, but they've been no help.  They told me to download HP Smart (which I did at the very beginning) and set up the wireless feature (did that).  What other app would I need to install?  Or would I need to do something else on HP Smart?  Does anyone know?  Right now I'm at a loss.  Help would be greatly appreciated!

Hi @MaggieMouse13,

I'd like to help!

Update mac and printer firmware -

To update Mac, try these steps - How to update the software on your Mac

To update  printer's firmware - HP Printers - Updating or Upgrading Printer Firmware

Add the AirPrint printer to the Mac printer queue

Confirm you are using AirPrint by adding the printer in System Preferences.

  1. Click the Apple menu, click System Preferences, and then click Print & Scan or Printers & Scanners.

  2. Check if your printer name displays in the Printers list, and then do one of the following steps.

    • If your printer is listed, remove and re-add the printer to confirm it is set up for AirPrint. Click the printer name, click the minus sign  to delete the printer, click the plus sign , click Add Printer or Scanner, click the printer name and then continue to the next step.

    • If your printer is not listed, click the plus sign, click Add Printer or Scanner, click the name of your printer, and then continue to the next step.

    • If your printer is not listed in the Add Printer or Scanner window, go to the Frequently asked questions in this document to resolve connection issues, try to add the printer again, and then continue to the next step.

  3. Confirm AirPrint or Secure AirPrint displays in the Use or Print Using menu, and then click Add.

Select AirPrint from the Use menu
