Hi @Ginny1231,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

t can be quite frustrating when the printer appears ready but won’t print. Here are some steps to troubleshoot and hopefully resolve the issue with linking your printer to your son's Lenovo IdeaPad:

Check Printer Connection:

  • Ensure that the printer is properly connected to the laptop either via USB or over your home network.
  • If it’s a wireless printer, confirm that both the printer and the laptop are connected to the same Wi-Fi network.

Check Printer Status:

  • On the laptop, open the 'Control Panel' (you can search for it in the Windows search bar).
  • Go to 'Devices and Printers' or 'Printers & scanners' and see if the printer is listed. Check if it’s set as the default printer.
  • Ensure there are no error messages associated with the printer. If there are, address these as per the message details (like clearing a paper jam or refilling ink).

Driver Update:

  • Printer issues often stem from outdated or corrupted drivers.
  • Visit the printer manufacturer’s website, find the support page for your specific printer model, and download the latest drivers compatible with the operating system on the Lenovo IdeaPad.
  • Install the drivers and restart both the printer and the laptop.

Print a Test Page:

  • From 'Devices and Printers' in the Control Panel, right-click on your printer icon.
  • Select 'Properties' and then look for an option to print a test page.
  • If the test page doesn’t print, it indicates that the problem could be with the printer itself or the connection.

Check Print Queue:

  • Open the printer queue by double-clicking the printer icon in 'Devices and Printers'.
  • Cancel all documents if there are stuck print jobs and try printing again.

Firewall/Antivirus Check:

  • Sometimes, the firewall or antivirus software on the laptop can block the communication between the device and the printer. Temporarily disable the firewall/antivirus and try printing. If this resolves the issue, you'll need to adjust the settings to allow the printer through the firewall/antivirus software.

Network Troubleshooter:

  • If you're connected via a network, use the network troubleshooter on the laptop to diagnose and fix problems. You can access this by going to 'Settings' -> 'Network & Internet' -> 'Status' and selecting 'Network troubleshooter'.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
