HP Recommended

I have been happily using my HP Deskjet 3630 for a couple of years but, for some reason that I haven't seen, it recently has stopped staying online.  I have repeatedly used HP Print & Scan Doctor with temporary success but it only stays online for each occasion.  HP Print & Scan Doctor, at one point asks that I select my printer from a pictured set of three 3630s, one labelled as Network (and showing DO NOT DELETE) and two other identical drawings but labelled Net.  I have chosen the second one (avoiding the DO NOT DELETE one) and am guided through a series of moves connecting and later removing a USB cable, at which point all seems fine.  However, later, when I try doing another print, all is dead again and when I check via the HP DeskJet 3630 series help app and inspect See what's printing, there's my intended print-job listed but, once again, showing printer offline.  How do I rectify this and make a working item into my default and functioning printer?
