Common problems for Connectivity Issues
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about Printer Wi-Fi, Connectivity Issues and Offline Status. Check out this link: HP printer is offline or unavailable.

HP Neverstop Laser MFP 1202nw
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Like the title says, my wirelessly connected HP printer keeps going offline. I eventually always manage to get it to work but I can never figure out how I did it and it just seems to come back "to life" all by itself. Every time this happens I try turning it off and on again, usually this doesn't do anything, re-install the driver, etc. Eventually one of these actions seems to tickle the printer and it suddenly makes itself available.

I've configured a static lease on my DHCP server so the printer definitely gets the same IP address every time. When it is working correctly I can access the printer's web control panel. After a period of inactivity (which I'm not sure if it's minutes or hours since I use my printer very sparingly) the printer will go offline. If I try to access the web interface my browser just says "Connecting..." until it times out. I can't ping it either. Interestingly, the printer LCD network indicator says it's connected to my wireless network. When it eventually comes back online and I can access the web interface, I still cannot print or scan. This has happened literally (and I mean that, it's no exaggeration) every time I've tried to use the printer. It's never ready when I need it. Last week my father needed to print a document urgently and we gave up trying to get it working, he just went to a local printing shop with his USB thumb drive and had it done there.

I still have a couple of weeks left to return this product to Amazon. Unless I can get a definitive solution within a week I regrettably will have to look elsewhere. I say regrettably because the printer works great when it works.

BTW this forums is ALSO broken. When I try to submit my posts it almost every time displays the following error message:

Your post has been changed because invalid HTML was found in the message body. The invalid HTML has been removed. Please review the message and submit the message when you are satisfied.

Trying to submit this very post I'm getting the above error, and it is very irritating. The workaround is to copy the text into Notepad, copy it again from there and paste it back into the forum post editor, but then I lose any formatting which IMO is an important tool for conveying a message. The "Clear formatting" tool in the forum post editor does squat.

The forum post editor Quote function insists in pasting the OP text instead of simply formatting whatever is highlighted as a quote. Duh. This is precisely how I feel when I'm trying to use my HP hardware.d

Welcome to the HP support community.

Use HP Print and Scan Doctor to fix connectivity and printing issues.

Download HP Print and Scan Doctor.

  1. Run HPPSdr.exe from the download location on your computer.

  2. Once HP Print and Scan Doctor opens, click Start, and then select your printer.

    • If your printer is not in the list, turn it off and on, and then click Retry.

    • If there is a connection problem, follow the instructions in HP Print and Scan Doctor.

  3. If a screen prompts you to turn on printer updates, click Yes.

  4. If a screen prompts you to make your printer the default printer, click Yes.

  5. Try to print.

Assign a manual IP address and that should fix the issue.

Find the printer IP address to assign it manually.

  1. Load plain paper in the input tray.

  2. On the printer control panel, press and hold the Resume button  for 3 seconds.

    A Network Summary prints.

Setting a Static IP Address

Once you know your printer’s IP address from the page you printed, entering it is pretty easy. Here’s what you do:

HP Printer Static IP Address

  1. Run your Web browser.
  2. In the Web browser’s address bar, type the IP address of your printer and press Enter. Assuming you entered the right address, the HP printer control panel should appear.
  3. Click the Networking tab.
  4. Under Connections, click Wireless.
  5. Under IP Address Configuration, click Manual IP.
  6. Enter the IP address, subnet mask, and default gateway in the appropriate boxes.
  7. Click Apply.

Let me know how it goes.

To thank me for my efforts to help you, please mark my post as an accepted solution so that it benefits several others.

Cheers.
