HP LaserJet Pro MFP M29w Printer
macOS 10.13 High Sierra

Hi -

Was forced into getting new Modem and Router by Spectrum today. Can't connect my printer for the life of me. Have tried all the articles, the HP smart App doesn't detect my printer, and the HP Utility software on my computer can't find it either.  One thing to note: my 2.4ghz and 5ghz networks are now streamlined onto the same network name. There's nothing I can do to change this (have already called Spectrum). All of the articles/videos I have seen are for Windows users - I am a MAC user and need specific help for setting up the printer with my Mac. Hoping someone can help!

Hi,

You cannot separate the SSIDs or disable the 5GHz wireless band for your router?

Generally, the printer supports a 2.4GHz wireless connection only, the problem is likely related with this information.

Please clarify above, so we may better understand what option would be the best to follow, with the current wireless configuration you will likely experience issues due the different bands usage without any control.

Hi @ShlomiL

Thanks for your reply! Yes, annoyingly I cannot separate out the SSIDs or disable the 5ghz - this is the case with all new routers provided by Spectrum (and of course, they don't tell you this before you've switched!) I found a bit of a workaround  but it only works intermittently. Could you tell me how, with a non-touchscreen printer, I am able to enter the new wifi credentials (I am using a Mac)? I couldn't even get to this step to try.

I hope there is a simpler way to enter the Network name and password on my printer, but for now my workaround was this -

I opened HP Utility from my computer

I selected the Direct Connect SSID that includes my printer's name from my computer wifi drop down.

This allowed the computer to talk to the printer.

I opened Additional Settings.

I selected Wireless Configuration.

I selected Network Name SSID

I refreshed the list until my new Spectrum SSID showed, and then selected that SSID

I entered the password for my Wifi where it asked for a "passphrase"

I hit Apply.

(I had to try this a couple of times, while also pressing the refresh button on the router, but eventually it connected).
