HP Deskjet plus 4100 series. I have been trying to connect to the wifi direct only because I was told my wifi at home isn’t compatible so I have to use wifi direct but it keeps disconnecting on its own. It connects and let me print one page then disconnects and then won’t connect anymore. I am using an iPhone 12 Pro Max to print. I just bought it last year around fall semester for school around Aug 2021 so it hasn’t even been a year yet. It was working in the beginning but for the past 4 months it hasn’t been working right. I’m in need of help asap. I don’t have funds to buy a new one.

Thank you for posting on the HP Support Community.

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help,

Firstly, check the Wi-Fi Direct status. The feature must be on before you can send a print job.

Printers with a control panel menu: Touch the Wi-Fi Direct icon . If the status is Off, touch the Settings icon , and then turn it on.

Printers without a control panel menu: Look for a Wi-Fi Direct button , and then confirm the light next to it is on and steady. If the light is off, press the button to turn Wi-Fi Direct on.

If there is no button, print a network configuration report or help page that lists the WI-Fi Direct status. If the status is Off, use the printer Advanced Settings (EWS) to turn it on. If Wi-Fi Direct is not listed on the report, your printer does not support the feature.

Use a method to print the page that matches the control panel buttons on your printer.

  • Press the Information button .
  • Press and hold the Resume button ( or ) for up to 10 seconds or until the report prints.
  • Move the printer and mobile device closer together to improve the signal strength.
  • Restart the printer and the computer or mobile device to clear possible error conditions.
  • Disconnect the Ethernet or USB cable. These connection types might interfere with the connection and basic driver installation.
  • Install the HP print driver or HP Smart app. Go to 123.hp.com for more information.

Restore Wi-Fi setup mode

Most printers with a touchscreen display or menu: Open the Wireless or Setup menu, select Network setup or Settings, and then select Restore Network Settings.

Printers without a touchscreen display or menu: Go to Restore Wi-Fi setup mode on your HP printer to restore default settings by pressing the buttons on your printer.

Thank you for replying but I don’t think you understood my question. I have done all you have said in the message but its still having connection issues. After completing all the requirements to connect to the direct wifi, my phone will connect but will not allow me to print or when I do get to printer to connect the direct wifi will disconnect and won’t reconnect again and now after two months of restarting and everything it no longer let me connect to the direct name or print or anything. What I did was I would put forget the network on my phone and reconnect it and restart the printer while it’s still on but it still wouldn’t fix the issue.

Thank you for posting back.

Let's try this:

Firstly, prepare your printer for a wireless connection, and restart the printer, computer, and router.

  • Turn the printer off, and then wait 10 seconds.
  • Disconnect the printer power cord from the printer.
  • Turn off your iPhone or the device you are trying to print from.
  • Connect the printer power cord to the printer, and then turn on the printer.
  • Disconnect the power cord from your wireless router, and then wait 10 seconds.
  • Reconnect the power cord to the router. Wait until Internet service is restored. Internet service is interrupted while the router is off.
  • Turn on the printing devices and try to connect.

Also, check with your Internet service provider if your router is able to forward 'Bonjour packets'.  Bonjour locates devices such as printers, other computers, and the services that those devices offer on a local network using multicast Domain Name System (mDNS) service records. The software comes built-in with Apple's macOS and iOS operating systems.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.
