I have been troubleshooting all day on this problem for my parents, trying to set up wireless printing for them on their new HP 1102W. I am trying to connect the printer wirelessly to their Airport Time Capsule base station. Using the WPS setup, the printer is recognized by the base station but i'm still not able to print wirelessly or via airprint. Going into the web setup via USB, I can see that the printer is recognizing the network but it doesn't have an IP address (it's set to automatic/DHCP). Afterwards i tried connecting to my iphone's shared wifi connection, and everything worked perfectly, so the issue is mainly that somehow the printer is not connecting properly to the Airport base station. I have tried several resets and restarts of the printer and base station, and both the printer and base station has the newest firmware. I have also tried changing the wireless security on the base station from the default wpa2 personal to wpa/wpa2 personal.
I would appreciate some input on this issue as I'm quite frustrated by now 🙂

Hi @NSJ7 ,
I see that you are having issues setting up the printer over the wireless network. I would like to help you resolve this issue, but I will need some more information.
Please provide the operating system you are using, so I can provide you with step by step instructions for setting up the printer.
Mac OS X: How Do I Find Which Mac OS X Version Is on My Computer?
How to Find the Windows Edition and Version on Your Computer.
Is the printer setup on a USB connection and printing yet?
Have a nice day!
Thank You.

The printer was set up over USB on a MacBook running the latest Mac OS X Yosemite. The printer is printing just fine over USB and it even works wirelessly on another wifi network.
One thought that just came to mind is that the extreme Base station (newest version) is running wifi 5G/.ac that might be the issue? I cannot check that out at the moment but will next time I stop by my parents. The printer does see the network though.

Hi NSJ7,
Thanks for providing that information.
Quote: The printer is printing just fine over USB and it even works wirelessly on another wifi network.
If I understand this correctly, the printer is setup on a different network and you want to change the printer to connect to the Time Capsules network. The printer can only be setup to one network name at a time. Correct me if I am wrong in coming to this conclusion.
If it is set to 5 GHZ network you may need to change to 2.4 GHZ. (rename the 5ghz or shut it off)
The WPA key setting needs to be on AES to work correctly not TKIP.
If it is set to 64 bit encryption then change it to 128 bit.
You would have to restore the printer defaults to setup the printer on a new network. I have provided the steps for 10.9, which will also work for 10.10.
Make sure Safari is set as the default browser. Sometime the Embedded Web Server won't open if it isn't.
Open Safari, across the top select the Safari menu, select Preferences, General, set as default.
Here is a Youtube video of the Laserjet P1102w wireless installation on Maverick.
You may follow the steps instead of watching the video.
Restore printer defaults first.
Turn the printer off, hold down the wireless button and cancel (x button) while turning the printer back on and don't release the two buttons until the printer stops making noise.
Print a configuration page to make sure the old network settings are cleared. Printing a Configuration Page.
Then go to the Apple, System Preferences, Printers and Scanners.
Highlight the Laserjet on the left side of the window.
Then click on Open Print Queue, click on Settings, click on Utility, click on Open Printer Utility, then click on the HTML Config button. If it doesn't open, delete and add the printer back in again. Make sure when your adding the printer it shows the printer name. (Laserjet P1102w)
The Embedded Web Server for the printer will open.
Click on the Networking tab, select Wireless on the left side.
Fill out this information for your network. Status make sure you select Enabled.
Apply the settings.
Then go back to Apple, System Preferences, Printers and Scanners and click the + sign to add the Laserjet bonjour printer. (might take a couple of minutes to appear) Make sure the printer listed beside use: shows the proper printer name and not the default driver, then click on the add button.
Delete the USB printer from the list from the Printers and Scanners window.
Disconnect the USB cable.
Test the printer.
Please let me know the outcome.
Thank You.
