When I try to install the software for the 3830 series printer, it stops and asks for "serscan.sys" file.  I downloaded this file and extracted it to a folder named "Driver" as instructed. When it asks for "serscan" file I browse to the "Driver" folder  and click on it, installation runs for a few seconds then  I get a message dealing with HP printer & Microsoft compatibility, I click "continue anyway", it then runs for a few more seconds then gives me a installation failed screen.  I can print with a USB connection, but not wireless.  I can print wireless from my tablet or my phone.  Maybe my computer is just too old?

Hi,

Thanks for using the HP Forums.

Spoiler
Maybe my computer is just too old?

Any chance you can upgrade the OS?

You could try this:

Please Download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor (PSDR) tool to diagnose and fix your problem

Hope that helps.

The HP PSDR would not run because the software had not installed completely (Which was the problem).  The serscan.sys file I was trying to use was one I had downloaded (failed ).  After digging into the Windows/i386/  folder I found the serscan.sys file installed with my OS.  Extracted it to my desktop "Driver folder, software completed installation and I now have access to my wireless printer.
