Hello,

I  got LaserJet 4200 that lifts paper when the selector on Tray 2 is in Custom position, but does not lift when selector is set to Standard. From what I can see when switching selector to Standard or Custom the only difference is the three little plastic bars on the side of the tray that engage three contacts in the printer when the tray is in. When the tray is in Standard mode, only the contact in the middle is engaged.

I am not sure if it is the middle contact in the printer that is out of order, or maybe be the coil in the lift motor that is connected to the middle contact. And I cannot find anything on replacement of the Tray 2 lift motor on the web.

Please help.

Thank you.

While the printer was on, I pulled the tray 2 out and played with the three tray contacts on the side of the printer, pushing and relasing them, it seemed to have sort of a reset effect on that switch, and so far it lifts the tray just fine...

If the tray lifts in any mode then it is not the lifter. Only suggestion I can give you is to move the backstop all the way back and then move it forward to letter or whatever size you are using and then see if it works.

I have already tried the backstop and even another paper tray.

It can always lift when selector is in custom position, but in standard position it lifts only the first time after the printer is powered on, and then, if the tray is out and back in, it does not lift.
