I have an HP 1606dn printer that has worked well until today.  When I try to print, it says I have a scanner 52 error.  I was not even aware this device had a scan option.  I've tried reinstalling the drivers, performing a firmware update, and rebooting & unplugging the device.  Nothing seems to work.  Now when I turn the device on all of the lights on top come on and stay on and nothing will print without throwing the error.  I've downloaded the HP troubleshooting tool and when I check for printer errors, it does not find any.  When I ask it to check for scan errors, it says all of the software has not been installed for the product.  I followed the link to the page and installed the full package of software for the printer, but the error does not change.  Help...?

Hi,

The HP Laserjet P1606dn indeed don't have a scanner and therefore the error does not make much sense..

Do you see the error only on the computer screen?

If this is correct it seems to be rather a software issue..

What exact scenario you see comparing the document below?

Do you get any response while trying to print a test page from the device itself?

  1. Make sure that the Ready light ( ) is on and that the product is idle and silent.
  2. Press and hold the Go button ( ), and release it when the Ready light ( ) begins blinking.
    The Configuration page prints.

Thank you for your reply.  The toner (probably because I'm getting low on toner), attention, ready, and go light all come on after the device powers up.  They do not blink, but rather are on solid.  I just plugged the device in after it had been unplugged for over an hour.  The printer went through it's startup cycle and then all the lights are one.  Without trying to print anything, it provided me the error: 52.0 Scanner error.
