HP Envy 5663
macOS 10.12 Sierra

Just replaced the black ink cartridge, and an error comes up that says Ink Cartridge problem- remove and install the indicated ink cartridge, making sure it is correctly installed, then touch ok. I did this several times with same message.  Put the old cartridge back in and it worked (but empty).  Returned the new ink cartridge thinking it was defective, installed new one and I am getting same message. What could be wrong?

Hello, @peeling – Hope you are well 🙂

Thank you for becoming an HP Forum member. It is a great location to get help from the community, get suggestions and find what has worked for others!

I understand that you are getting cartridge problem while using the new cartridge with the Envy 5660 series printer. I found a wonderful document which will help you address this issue.

Go to http://hp.care/2o4SdEi and follow the steps under “Solution1” to “Solution 6” to try and fix the issue.

Those steps should do the trick, let me know the outcome!

Good luck 🙂

Thank you for the response.  I have done everything listed in that article.  I have tried 2 brand new black cartridges and it tells me I have ink cartridge problem and to remove and reinstall it.  I have tried it numerous times.  I have unplugged and plugged back in.  BUT when I put the black ink cartridge back in that is out of ink, it I dont get that message.  I have only had this printer since December 2016.  I would  return it to Target where I purchased it but I do not have the box anymore. I hope we can resolve this because I have alot of work to do and need my printer!

Hello, @peeling

Thanks for the reply & appreciate your efforts 🙂

Since you have purchased the printer in December 2016, the printer is still under warranty. I would suggest you contact the HP phone support to get the printer serviced / replaced.

You can visit http://www.support.hp.com/contact-hp and fill in your product details to get the tech support number.

(1) Once the support page opens please select the country in which you're located. Next, enter your HP model number on the right.

(2) Next, choose the 'Contact Support' tab at the top and scroll down to the bottom of the 'HP Support- Contact' page to fill out the form provided with your contact information.

(3) Once completed click the 'Show Options' icon on the bottom right.

(4) Lastly, scroll down to the bottom of the page and select 'Get phone number.' A case number and phone number will now populate for you.

Let me know if that helps!

Cheers 🙂

After hours and hours trying to figure out how to contact support, your post was very helpful, thank you.  But I do have to say this will be the very last hp product I purchase.  I have only had  this printer since December.  This is the first time I have had to change the black ink.  I tried two brand new HP ink cartridges and kept getting same error message.  I went to the help page you suggested and did everything they said to try.  Still got the same error message. I tried caling support Saturday, only to get cut off 4 times without ever talking to anyone.  I then spent over an hour chatting with someone who told me I was using the wrong ink HP62 -thats the ink that came in the printer box when I bought it and that is the ink that is printed on the inside of the printer to use.  After having me go through all of the things I already tried he said it was the wrong in & I should be using HP61 and he would send me a complimentary ink cartridge.  Knowng I wouldnt be getting that for lord knows how long, I went to the store and bought a black HP61 ink cartridge.  SAME error message.  Sunday I didnt even bother trying to call HP support I went on the chat again.  Spent about 2 hours with the agent, had me do the SAME things once again. Never explained to me or apologized for being told wrong ink to use.  After over 2 hours of frustration she said she will replace my printer.  WITH A REFURBISHED ONE!!!!!!!!  I dont understand how a company so large would not send me a new printer.  I could understand if I had it for almost a year.  But I've only had it since December!  That was my only option.  Either keep my defective HP printer or have them send me a refurbished one that someone else had a problem with.  I am not going to give HP any more of my money.
