Laserjet 600 m602
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

Printer won't do anything. Since the moment the power button is pressed it goes to "freeze" state with display screen off, power button on and sand clcok and power leds on forever.

Doing troubleshoot I cleaned with compressed air and try to provoque any sign of life by removing the tonner, fuser, holding down the panel buttons while turning on but nothing helped.

Any one have an Idea what is wrong and how to fix this ?

Thank you all in advance for any help you can provide.

There is a solid state hard disk in the formatter.  Open the cage and disonnect it and power on the printer.  Does anything happen.  If not I would think the formatter has an issue and needs to bea replaced.

This model has an engine test button.

You should be able to run the engine test even with a defective formatter.

Before we run the engine test please unplug the printer from the wall, press and hold the printer power button for about 30 seconds, and then plug it back into the wall and press the power button and tell me if it makes any noises.

On the side of the printer where the formatter access panel is located there are a couple of air vents. About halfway between the bench there is a square hole. You can insert small screwdriver tip through the hole and push the engine Test button. When the button is pushed the machine should print out a page of lines.

It's the engine test does not work power off the machine and remove the formatter. Power the machine back on with the formatter removed and try the test again. You typically have to wait 15 to 20 seconds after the machine is powered on before pressing the button.

You can do a search for the service or troubleshooting manual for this machine and find a copy online but it will not be on the HP website.

Thank you very much for your valuable help SHThompson.

I did as suggested, and in step 1, after pluging back the power the printer got to same state, no noise at all only the mentined condition with power button and leds permnently on but display completely off.

I proceeded with step 2 by pushing to the Engine test button with the formatter in place and the all the back gers mechanism started but stoped after 5 seconds, no page were printed out.

Next I did same process with formatted removed but the condition was repeated, all back gears mechanism started and stoped after few seconds.

One more thing I sohuld mentioned at the begining is that I have a happy face led on and heart led blinking in the back of the formatter telling me it is alive!

Any other idiea is greatly appreciated!

I checked an M602 printer at work this afternoon.

My results were very similar to yours.

When I plug in power and turn on the printer I do hear a fan run on high speed for about 8 seconds and then it runs on a slower speed.

The service manual says that the engine test should run with the formatter removed but it did not work for me. It might be that I pressed the button too soon and the printer wasn't ready to run the test, it did spin some rollers which indicated to me that the power supply and the DC controller were functional.

Did you try David's suggestion? His diagnosis of a formatter failure is probably correct. The one thing that concerns me is that the lights on the formatter to indicate that it is working properly.

I'm assuming you're connected by a network so I'd like you to try and connect to the printer embedded web server. To do that put the IP address of the printer in the URL bar of a browser. Let us know if you see anything when you do that.

Thank you again SHThompson for following up this issue.

Yes, I tried what David suggested but no luck neither (by the way, thank you very much David for your suggestion).

You are right, It is connected to the LAN and it is a kind of weird too because there is no sign of action in the printer's LAN port but when turned ON and it is just for a second. In the cisco switch however, I see the port working normally but when trying to ping to the printer's IP Address I receive back a Destination host unreachable. Consequently, it fails to connect to embedded web print server.

The fact that the display is all dark means something specific to you? I thought it was off but with the office lights off I see it is not, but no info is displayed anyway.
