Tried downloading the latest Aug. 15 drivers and still no luck with the scanning from the HP App. Keep getting the "device in use" error as shown. The webscan interface doesn't allow multipage scanning, only off the glass, so not a real solution.
After installing the latest drivers, I was able to use the Microsoft Scan app. Search for Scan from desktop search. See:
http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c05195282
and check under "What if I get an error message or cannot use my printer after the upgrade?" and then under "Can't scan from network-connected printer after upgrading from Windows 7".
Does that mean HP is no longer supporting their scanning app on Windows 10?

Since upgrading to Windows 10. Scanner does not send file to my computer.
Another Windows 10 bug... It will not download the photos from my CanonEOS 400D Digital Camera.
Third Bug... Windows 10 has converted ALL my OpenOffice files to READ ONLY. Though I think I have found a work around.

Here's how I solved the scanning problem for my 8600 All in One Printer on Windows 10. In Win 10, open the Windows Store; seach for the HP All in One Printer Remote app. Install it on your computer and run it. A large window will open; under Controls you'll see four options, includingScan. Click on Scan. You'll get a message that another app must be downloaded in order to scan. Follow the screen prompts to download the Scan and Capture app.
Run the app and you'll get a screen with with options to scan docs or pix. If you right click the window, you'll open a settings-option to set a variety of options.
The overall process to find all this info was not intuitive, nor was it user friendly to finally set up. The only good news at least is that the scanner now works as it should!

THANK YOU!!!!! This worked and saved me from buying a new printer today!!!! I finally have use of my "Officejet 6500 Eco" for scanning again!
I am running Windows 10, 64 Bit Home Edition, and my Officejet 6500 printer is connected via a wireless connection.
BTW, incase this makes sence to other people who are trying to use this printer to scan with 3rd party software... Go to where you can select the device to scan from in your software. For this printer there are normally 3 items listed. Two of them are TWAIN drivers, and the third is listed as a WIA Driver. The two TWAIN drivers do not work! You must use the WIA driver. Simply put, I can scan in "PhotoFiltre 7" with the "WIA-Officejet 6500 E709n 1.0 (32-32) driver selected as the source.

Once again, thank you for all your kind help. Unfortunately downloading of the apps did not work..
I have spent MANY. MANY hours trying to resolved this scanning issue, each time it comes back with the message.. "The HP Scan application was unable to save to the file Specified.
This is not the only issue I am having with Windows 10, my Canon EOS 400D SLR Digital camera can no longer download the photos to my laptop.
I strongly believe the fault lies with Microsoft 10 upgrade software. Yesterday I spotted something for the first time. I use two primary devices, my laptop and a ASUS TransformerBook. NEITHER of these devices have ever been connected to each other in any way. The ASUS Transformer Book has NEVER been connected to my HP Officejet 6500A Plus Printer, and neither has it ever been connected to my Canon Camera.
When I upgraded to Windows 10, I upgraded the ASUS first using my Microsoft Window account details, I needed to ensure Windows 10 worked seamlessly, before upgrading my laptop. It does on my ASUS. Then I upgraded my laptop. Yesterday I suddenly spotted that my LAPTOP, which is NOT ASUS, now shows my ASUS DESKTOP, including the FULL ASUS Traansformer details. I now think my Printer and Camera when connected to my laptop are trying to send the files to a ASUS location, which does not exist on my lap top. Has Windows 10 somehow configured my Laptop as my ASUS Transformer Book. If so how can I get this fixed?
Much help needed from better informed than myself. Many thanks...John.

If you read my above issue on this, I do not believe this is a Scanner issue, I have tried all the great inputs posted above, and it still doesn't work. There is a test, can't recall where it was now. But I ran it and my scanner worked perfectly. Which proved the scanner is fine. But it still does not work when I try to scan anything. It also does not send scans to email.
I use TWO devices, I think, when I upgraded to window 10 on one of them, which is not connected to the scanner. When I upgraded the second device with my Microsoft account log in, it copied the first device to it, so is trying to send scans to it and not the second device.
I tried to find where I can send this to Microsoft, but as usual there is NO contacts available.
Does anyone have a contact link to Microsoft, I'm sure with the details I have it may help solve this problem for many.
