6830 Pro
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Not sure if anything will come of this or if it's just venting, but here's the situation.  On 4/12 my 6830 started with a "printhead" error, which I can't fix.  Fill out the info for this; https://support.hp.com/us-en/productreplacement .  Looks like I'm getting another printer.  Great, CSO is BJRY6217-01.

Fast forward to today, 4/15, new-to-me printer shows up, nice turnaround time.  It's a refurb 6830, no problem.  Unpack it, move all the packing to the old printer so that I can ship it out Monday.  Power up the new printer, unable to align, not a great start.  Skip past that, setup time, WiFi, etc.  Try to print a test page from Windows, no black.  Check Win settings, everything's fine, so I try the report pages via the printer console, no black.

I then go goole'ing, see many reports of the same issue, as well as the recommended solutions page here:

https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/HP-Officejet-Pro-6830-e-All-in-One-Printer-series/5390307/model...

I've tried these steps, three times in fact, with three different black cartridges.  I tried with the "setup" cartidge supplied,I tried with a brand new black cartridge, and I tried with the black XL cartridge from the previous printer that was known good.  No joy for any of it.  It's plugged directly into the wall, none of the reports you can print from the printer console have any black on them, direct copies from the printer are black-less.

So now I'm currently stuck with two printers, one of which I have to ship back Monday, that are at this point very large paper weights.

Sorry to hear of your bad experiences.  I have asked to have your case escalated, someone from HP should contact you through private messaging.

In the meantime, if you have important work to print (like the tax forms I am working on) a workaround would be to select HP Glossy Photo Paper as the media type in the driver, even if you are printing on plain paper.  This will force the printer to use color ink rather than black, even to print black text.

Haven't heard anything as of yet, but thanks.  Sent out the original non-working printer today so it'll be interesting to see how things work out.

I sent in a reminder for the escalation request. Normally someone from HP would post in this thread acknowledging they are forwarding the information on and that someone will be contacting you.  My experience is that it takes a few days for the escalation request to work its way through the system, but the acknowledgement usually happens within minutes.
