Mac OS X 10.11 El Capitan

I recently went to use this printer after not having used it for approx 5months (I've owned it for 3 or 4 years with no problems historically).

It won't print.

It won't recognise my router (even tho on the Network test print results it shows it being connected to my SSID)

The blue LED is blinking.

I'm on a MAcBook Pro running El Capitan.

I'm not fussed if it (needs?) to connect to my router or not, I simply want to send docs from my Mac to print wirelessly.

I've just wasted the last 3hours of my life which I will never get back, trawling HP's site for help and advice. I've seen a message that said Web Services ceased in Sept 16, is that a reason for this issue? If so, that's a pig - I am not buying a new printer every 3 dod **bleep** years!

I tried Scan doctor only to find it supports PC and not Mac, another 15mins wasted

Their website sends you round in circles to 123.hp.com or hp support website, or finally the hp assistant (last one only PC supported).

I then downloaded a driver set wizard set up only to find my device not listed (must be something to do with the wireless setting on the printer) then if u press on 'my device is not listed' it opens a new page which tells you to make sure the printer is in HP Auto Wiress Connect Set Up - I cannot find that feature on my printer!

I've reset the factory setting on the printer, I've even tried WPS set up with my router (not that I have a clue that I know what on earth I'm doing) still to no avail.

I'm begining to loose the will to live. If this is what happens to HP printers after 3/4 years of use, then I will go out and buy a new printer, but u can bet ur bottom dollar it wont be an HP.

If anyone can advise I would be most greateful.

Hello, @JonoTopMan – Hope you are well 🙂

Thanks for joining the HP Support forums! I would glad to be of your assistance 🙂

I understand that you are facing issues with your Photosmart 7510 printer. Do not worry, this issue has nothing to do with the web-services. Going through your post, you mentioned that the wireless light is blinking. Well, that is because the printer is not connected to your network. We need to first connect the printer to your network and then add the printer to your MAC. Here are the steps:

  1. On the printer control panel, touch the Wireless icon (), and then touch Settings.

  2. Touch Wireless Setup Wizard. The wizard searches for and displays a list of available networks.

  3. Touch the name of your network, and then follow the on-screen instructions to connect the printer to the network.

  4. Once the printer is connected to the network, the wireless light will be solid blue light and will not blink.

Now, once the light is steady, follow the steps mentioned below to reset your printing systems and to add the printer to your MAC.

  • Click the Apple menu icon, and then click “System Preferences”.
  • Click “Printers and Scanner” / “Print and Scan” or “Print and Fax”.
  • Right-click the blank space in the Printers list, and then click “Reset printing system”.
  • Click “Reset” in the confirmation window.
  • Enter an administrator username and password, and then click “OK”.
  • Wait until the printing system is reset and no devices show in the Printers list
  • Restart your computer and then go back to System preferences – Printers and scanners.
  • Click the “Add button” (+).
  • Find, and then select the name of your printer from the printer list, and then click “Add” to add your printer.
  • Click “Print Using...”, and then select the name of your printer (By default “Airprint” would be selected)

Please let me know if this resolves the issue, or if you require further assistance.

Good luck 🙂

Hello Dvortex

Thank you kindly for getting in touch, BUT...

I had already tried what you suggested.

As a result of your message, I decided to move my printer phyisically closer to my router to perform your suggestions (it wasnt that far away to begin with, but I thouth what the heck)

As you suggested, I hit the wireless icon, touched wireless set up wizard and searched for local networks. MY network does not show as an available network (despite it being connected to my iPhones, Mac and iPad - so there can't be anything wrong with my Network).

For your information when I print The Wireless Network Test Results Page, under current configuration and Network name it is showing my Network SSID, which is the correct SSID - my SSID, so why would the printer show that it was connected to that whilst the blue light continues to blink?

Also, before you suggest I have already reset all manufacturers settings, again this was to no avail.

Therefore I am unable to proceed with the remainder of your suggestions until we can complate this part.

I look forward to hearing from u

Hello, @JonoTopMan

Thanks for the update & appreciate your efforts!

I went through your post carefully and this certainly is a tricky one 🙂

Anyways, on the wireless test report you printed from the printer, do you see an IP address? If so make a note of the same. It would normally be something like 192.168.XXX.YYY or 10.10.XXX.YYY

Now, I want you to find the IP address on your MAC. You can click on the Apple icon on the top-left - System preferences - Network to find the IP address.

Now, I want you to compare both these IP address. The first 3 octets (192.168.XXX / 10.10.XXX) should be exactly the same for the printer & the MAC to be on the same network. Let me know if that is the case.

If the IP address shows that the printer is on the same network, I need you to run another simple test. Open safari and enter the printer IP address on the address bar and press enter. If the printer is connected properly, this should open the printer EWS page.

Thanks, I'll watch for your reply!

Cheers 🙂

Hi there

Not sure if I misled you or not. When I said the wireless network test results print out states the printer has found my SSID, I did in fact mean the part on the sheet where it states 'Current Configuration', thats where it shows my SSID.

Under 'Diagnostics Results' where it says Network Name (SSID) Found the test result says 'Not Run'

Therefore I do not have an IP address showing unfortunately.

I'm trying to attach an image of the test result sheet for you to see.

What I think we need to do is perform a hard restart of the printer, is there anyway I can do this? I've pressed factory reset buttons on the display without joy.

Btw when I do a search for Networks it shows others in my area, just not mine 😞

Also, just tried attaching image and it wont let me. U only allow 1mb whereas my image is 1.8mb grrrrrrr

Can we skype or is there a number I can call please? This is taking far too long

Hello, @JonoTopMan

Thanks for the reply! Unfortunately, I do not have options of Skype or a telephone number that you can call me 😞

If your printer can find other networks, but not yours, then I suspect that the "SSID" of your network might be hidden. There is such an option with the network routers to hide the SSID to restrict unauthorized access. You might need to check the router EWS page to make sure the SSID is not hidden.

There is also another option of temporarily using the USB cable to connect your printer to the MAC and then converting the USB printer to a network printer using the printer software installed on your MAC. Check the steps below:

1. Install the printer using the USB cable

  1. Uninstall the old printer drivers first. Follow the steps mentioned here: http://hp.care/2cKwLyC
  2. Restart your MAC.
  3. Now, click on http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software12/COL52083/mp-125883-3/HP-Inkjet-SW-OSX-Mavericks_v12.34.38.d... to install the printer drivers.
  4. In the Add printer / Connectivity screen, choose "USB" and connect the USB when prompted.
  5. Follow the on-screen instructions and finish the installation.

2. Convert the USB to Wireless

  1. Double-click the HP Utility icon in the Dock.

HP Utility is also located in the Applications/Hewlett-Packard folder.

  2. Click Applications, and then click HP Setup Assistant.

  3. Follow the on-screen instructions to change your connection type to an existing wireless network.

Let me know if that works for you or if you need additional assistance!

Have a great day 🙂

Ok, initial problem solved - i simply re-booted my router.

Now I can print, thanx. But now I struggle to scan :smileyfrustrated::smileyfrustrated: Let's not get into it, printing is a priority scanning is secondary

Hello, @JonoTopMan

Thanks for the reply! Glad to know that the printer is printing fine 🙂

Now, I see that you are having issues while scanning. I would suggest installing the HP Easy Scan app to get the scanning functionality.

Go to http://hp.care/2cXZaB1 and install the HP Easy Scan. Once done, open the HP Easy Scan app and then try to scan.

Please let me know if this resolves the issue, or if you require further assistance.

Good luck 🙂

Hello there

I've downloaded the app as suggested but I get this error message...

192.xxxxxxxx [ip address masked for secuirty] is currently unavailable. Please check if it is turned on and connected, or try again later.

I know my printer is on and connected as I printed something from it earlier (power light is on, Blue led light is on (NOT blinking)

Hello, @JonoTopMan

Thanks for the update!

I would suggest you to assign a static IP address and check. This will also help you in getting a steady connection on your printer. Here are the steps:

•    Obtain the IP address of the printer – You can touch the “wireless” icon on the printer control panel to get the IP address.
•    Type the IP address on your web browser to obtain the printer EWS page on your computer.
•    Go to "Network" tab - General - Select "Network protocols" - Select "Enable IPv4 only" (or similar) - Apply the settings.
•    Go to the “Network” tab – Click on “Wireless (802.11) – Then click on “Network address (IPv4)
•    Click on the radio button which says “Manual IP” and then click “Suggest a manual IP address” to give a manual IP address to your printer.
•    Click on radio button which says “Manual DNS Server” and under manual preferred type 8.8.8.8 and under manual alternate type 8.8.4.4 (This is Google DNS server address)

Now, restart your printer, MAC & Router and then try installing the HP Easy Scan again.

That should do the trick!

Cheers 🙂
