My 8500A will not print. When a job is sent all light flash and a momentary error code, 0081 is displayed. Message says to turn off printer and restart. When restarted same thing happens. This happens when on/off switch is used or unit is umplugged. Unit does not go through it's normal start up sequence, just goes pretty quickly to the ready screen. Happened a couple of night's ago and I was able to make it reboot by umplugging unit, but now it will not reboot nor work.
Thanks

I'm having exactly the same problem. It would be awful nice if HP would some where gives access to error codes! It's almost as if HP had an internal clock that decrees that when the printer is 2 years old it will die, forcing you to buy another printer. Even when it worked it was a very temperamental printer and wasted lots of ink doing self cleaning. If I have to replace this one, it will not be an HP!

Good description, same as mine BUT:
It first had a YK printhead failure, but *ONLY* once. After removal of the YK head, reinstall then a power cycle, guess what? It went straight to this problem and never mentioned the print head again.
Print heads in/out a few times and no change, just this mystery quick flash of 0081 then all lights flashing.
Turns out I replace both heads a bit ago and have the old clogged up YK printhead (I changed ink types and, opps, clog). Replaced the new with the old and...
***FIXED!***
Looks like time for another YK printhead.
I'm running a CISS ink system so I *REALLY* don't want to give up on this 8500A (talk about cheap ink!). Looks like I'm still good.
