8610 ink cartridge problem

HP Recommended
OfficejetPro 8610
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

Changed ink cartridges for the first time since I bought this back in Nov. 2015.  The last cartridge to run empty was the magenta and when I replaced it, the printer didn't recongize it.  I have followed all the troubleshooting guiidelines I could find to no avail.  Even updated the firmware.  No luck.  Just hoping against hope that there is another solution before I throw this piece of trash out.  Obviously cheaper to buy a new one than an entire printhead.  Sad the quality of HP printers has certainly gone downhill.

Sadly, nothing that simple.  I have already exchanged the complete set of color cartridges out with a new set from the retailer and still get an error message about the Magenta cartrdige being empty.

I would have to agree.  I watched the ink level reporting function as I inserted the new cartridge.  The cartridge was recogznied as a 951XL and the ink level was full.  Then the error message popped up.  The unit is out of warranty so the least expensive thing for me to do is just buy a new one.  WHen I searched the web, I found lots of similar complaints for the 8610.  Too bad this model was so poorly made.  Hope the next one I buy is better or I may just stray and buy another manufacturer on the shelf.

Yup, ended up buying an Epson which works beautifully.  Less expensive refills too.  HP has to learn there is a price for making shoddy products ... they lose customer loyalty.  I guess I will now try to return the XL color cartridge set as they are very expensive.
