HP Deskjet 3510
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

Hi.

I've got a HP Deskjet 3510 series printer+scanner. Till now I have been using my printer with OS Windows XP 32bit SP3 (and it worked fine) but now I want to up my printer to a new laptop with Windows 7 64 bit SP1 OS and I have got the similar issue to the described over here:

https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Inkjet-Printing/HP-Printer-Assistant-for-HP-Deskjet-3510-Series-won-t-...

Unfortunately the solution described in a topic doesn't work for me.

My issue looks like this:

When I click on an icon of HP Deskjet 3510 series on my Windows Desktop, it shows two errors (sorry for my translation. Those errors are shown in Polish language. I have translated them to English):

1st)

Script error

Line 69

Sign 13

Error: Couldn't execute a "split" for empty or undefined request.

Code: 0

URL:  file:///C:/Program%20Files/HP/HP%20Deskjet%203510%20series/Bin/HPSPProgress.hta

2nd)

Script error

Line: 335

Sign: 13

Error: Couldn't execute a "split" for empty or undefined request.

Code: 0

URL: file:///C:/Program%20Files/HP/HP%20Deskjet%203510%20series/Bin/HPSolutionsPortal.hta

Because of that I cannot start the HP Printer Assistant - the app starts blank!

Line 69 of HPSPProgress.hta file looks like this:

var split_array = UDC_Progress.commandLine.split("\"");

Line 335 of HPSolutionsPortal.hta file looks like this:

var split_array = UDC_App.commandLine.split("\"");

Can you help me, what can I do to solve my problem?

Best regards!

Radek

Let me take a moment to thank you for posting on the HP Support Forums.

I understand that you have an HP Deskjet 3510 e-All-in-One Printer and it does not work on Win7 operating system. I read that you have installed the drivers and when you try to access the printer icon, there are two script errors. You've done a remarkable job performing the steps. Not to worry, I'll do my best to help you.

To provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:

  • Is the printer connected via a USB cable or wirelessly?
  • Did you install the drivers using the disk or from the HP website?

Meanwhile, it looks like the drivers are corrupt. I recommend you to perform the following steps to uninstall the existing printer drivers from the root level by following the below steps:

  • In Windows, search for and open Programs and Features.
  • Select your HP printer.
  • Select Uninstall.
  • In Windows, search for and open Devices and Printers.
  • In the Devices and Printers window look for your HP Printer. If you see it listed, right-click on it and choose "Delete" or "Remove Device.”
  • Open up the run command with the "Windows Key + R" key combo.
  • Type printui.exe /s and click OK.
  • Click on Drivers tab.
  • Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it click on it and click Remove at the bottom.
  • Select OK.
  • Select Apply and OK on the Print Server Properties windows.
  • Close Devices and Printers.
  • Please download and install the drivers from this link

I sincerely hope this fixes the issue. Let me know what happens. Cheers! 🙂

Hi,

Yes you are right. I used to work with my printer on the Windows XP 32 bit SP3 with no problems. Right now I try to use it with Windows 7 64bit SP1. And I have got this problem.

The problem exists in both situation: when the printer is connected via USB and via Wireless.

Oh. I had a problem with wireless direct connection. My computer couldn't find a printer although the connection was done and even with an USB cable connection help, this problem could not be solved. But I have resolved this problem by the editing of IPv4 properties of the connection and manual sett of the following values: IP 192.168.223.100, MASK 255.255.255.0, GATE 192.168.223.1, DNS 192.168.223.1, WINS 192.168.223.1 Right now I can work with my printer via USB and also via wifi. Or at least I should.

I have installed the drivers using the CD from the box. It should work with Windows 7. But it does not. At least the HP Printer Assistant doesn't open properly (I see those two errors and blank window with no CP).

OK. I'll follow your advice. But I must inform you that I used DWS_Lite.exe just after the fresh instalation of Windows 7 (it is original system of course) because Windows 7 update and telemetry components made my computer really slow. So... I don't know does your advice would work properly. Anyway, I'll try and inform you does it work.

Best regards,

Radek

Now you see my problem on the screenshots. I think it is not tha fault of driveres and it never was - as long as the system see the printer and can connect with. The problem is with the following scripts lines of those two files:

1) HPSPProgress.hta Line 69

2) HPSolutionsPortal.hta Line: 335

You see those errors on the first two screenshots. The final efect of those errors is on the third screenshot. The blank window of the HP Printer Assistant...

Thanks for your reply. I appreciate you taking your valuable tie to troubleshoot.

I read in your earlier post that the problem was fixed by you by the editing of IPv4 properties of the connection and manual setting of the values.

I suggest you to try installing inbuilt printer drivers from the Windows operating system and that should help. Please refer to this link for installing the inbuilt drivers.

NOTE: You may refer to "Step 3: Install the print driver with the Add a Printer wizard" for adding the printer via USB or wirelessly based on your choice. I suggest you try both and check which one works well.

I hope this does the trick. Keep me posted. Cheers! 🙂

I am sorry for misunderstanding. It must be the fault of that I am not a native English speaker. The major problem is not solved and your advice didn't work for me. I have mentioned "by the way" about another problem I have solved during the process of installation. The major problem is with a script execution.

I can install my printer. But after that, when I click the icon of  "HP Deskjet 3510 series" on my Windows Desktop it starts a process which end with nothing. I can choose which one connection I want - via USB or via Wireless. And after that I see a window of an error (see the first screenshot above) and when I click YES, I see second window of an error (see te 2nd screenshot above). And then I click YES and then I see nothing. I should see the control panel but there is only a note "Dynamic content goes here" (see the third screenshot above). So... It is not solved.

Please, can you ask someone who is a programmer and know a code, what is wrong with those two lines of this two files included? I mean HPSPProgress.hta Line 69: "var split_array = UDC_Progress.commandLine.split("\"");" and HPSolutionsPortal.hta Line: 335: "var split_array = UDC_App.commandLine.split("\"");"? Why does it show a note: "Nie można pobrać właściwości "split" dla niezdefiniowanego lub pustego odwołania". It means "Unable to get value of the property "split" object is null or undefined". **bleep**?

Best regards,

Radek

Not a problem at all. I appreciate you taking your valuable time to troubleshoot.

I did some further research and came across this HP document which gives a solution to fix these script errors. These are systematically designed steps and I suggest you should try them out.

Let me know. Thanks again! 🙂
