I have just purchased an HP6520 which can connect to my network. I can install the full software from HP but when I try to install the printer on my PC  it tells me I need to update the driver.

I can download the latest drivers via Device Manager, but when I try to install  I get Windows encountered a problem ..... Access denied.

Would much appreciate some help

Hi CaroleWest,

Thanks for getting back to me!

I would first suggest ensuring the account you are logged on as is an Administrator Account. This link will help you do that.

Next, run this Microsoft Fix it tool which will help you uninstall or install the printer.

If it's possible for you to try installing the printer on another computer, do so. This will confirm if the problem is with your operating system or the printer. If the printer has an issue, the install will not work on another computer either.

You can also try re-installing the printer by using the HP Printer Install Wizard for Windows.

If that still does not work any magic, try Disabling your Firewall (example, McAfee or Norton) during the installation in case that is what is blocking the install.

I hope that does the trick!

Welcome to the forums CaroleWest,

I saw your post about the installation issue you are having as you're seeing an "Access Denied" message. I will help you the best I can with this!

First of all, try downloading the driver from hp.com and installing it from there. You will need to select your operating system and choose "Drivers" and then "Download".

Here is the link: HP Photosmart 6520 e-All-in-One Printer Drivers

You will need to be logged onto your computer using an Administrator Account to install the printer or you may see a message such as "Access Denied".

Please let me know your OS if there is an issue with installing the printer from the download. If you see any errors please let me know what they are.

Help to find which Operating System you are running:

Have a terrific TuesdaySmiley Happy

Hi

Many thanks for replying. I downloaded as you suggested but unfortunately I still get access denied. The same result occurs for my HP7520 printer. I am running Windows 7 Premium 64 bit.

I fear the problem may lie within Windows as I find  am also unable to install Windows updates. Some install but others will not. I got errors 80070002 and 80246007. I followed the instructions from Microsoft Windows Help for both errors (remove temporary files and restart BITS) but still I am stuck unable to install my printer drivers.

Neither can I deinstall the printers so I have a long list of both showing in device manager - a list which gets longer every time  I start up as Windows keeps trying to install them.

If you can help further I'd really appreciate it.
