Hi,

I am finding it impossible to print through adhoc network using our new Laserjet Pro P1102w. I followed printers' user guide and got as far as connecting to the printer. From Self Test's Direct Print Conf I see that Direct Print is on as well as that my laptop has an IP from the same subnet 192.168.223.0 (printer_IP:192.168.223.1,   MyLaptop_IP:192.168.223.23).

I cannot access HP Embedded Web Server at 192.168.223.1, I do get PING replies from the printer, though.

The printer installed fine for USB and WiFi but is has been bought specifically for its adhoc support which so far failed.

Has anyone had similar problem? Any help would be appreciated!

I am using Windows 7 and firewall is disabled.

Printer's User Guide procedure :

The product can be installed wirelessly to a computer through a peer-to-peer (ad-hoc) installation.

Turn on the product, and then restore the network setting.
Print a configuration page, and find the network name (SSID) in the Network Information section.
Refresh the computer wireless network connection list, and then click the product network name (SSID) and connect to it.
After several minutes, print a configuration page, and then find the product IP address.
At the computer, open a web browser, type the product IP address in the address box, and then press the Enter key to open the HP Embedded Web Server.
Click the HP Smart Install tab, and then click the Download button to install the product software.

darekkosyl, is your laptop connected to a network while you are trying to do this? How far away is the printer from the laptop? With a connection like this the printer and the computer have to be in very close proximity. If you ever lose the connection it will have to be reset using the steps below.

I would restore the network defaults (see below) and try connecting again with the steps you put above.

Restore default wireless settings

1. Turn the product off.

2. Press and hold the wireless button  wireless.gif and the cancel (X) button, and then turn the product on.

3. Hold the buttons until all the lights blink in unison, and then release the buttons.

Let me know if this helps!

Thank you for your help. My printer is in the same room, the signal is not the issue here. I have done resetting few times already, it disables Direct Print and I have to reinstall printer's software to enable it again after which I am able to make direct Laptop to Printer connection (printer_IP:192.168.223.1,   MyLaptop_IP:192.168.223.23) but cannot access EWS at 192.168.223.1 nor can I print to it. Please see the image below to see the printer's configuration after the reset.

darekkosyl, unfortunately after reading through the manual a little more, Direct Print is NOT available on this model of the P 1102 - the P 1102w. Outlined in the manual below from the bottom of 51 to the top of page 53 is more information, as well as a possible work around using AirPrint if you have an iOS device.

Let me know if this help!

After doing additional research with the actual printer model, I have found that the manual actually contains a misprint. The p1102w IS Direct Print capable.

However, I did notice that Direct Print was not turned on for your printer. To do that it will first have to be connected to your network, and enabled through the EWS for that functionality to be an option. We will also have to be sure that the firmware is up to date so that this feature has the best compatibility.

Let's go through and make sure that everything is correct. First I want to verify the model of printer you are working with, is this p1102w the CE657A or the CE658A? And what is your operating system?

Once I know this, I will be better able to get the information you need out.

Let me know!

Hi, i have the same problem as the author. My printer model is CE658A and i'm using IWndows 7. After resetting network setting the test page is exactly equal to the one above. Any help is highly appreciated.

Just to let you know that ad hoc is not supposed to be used for prolonged printing and generally times out after around two hours. Also, did you follow the instructions/ read the material from above? Let me know what's going on.

Also, you can usually enable the ad hoc printing by pressing the wireless discovery button on the printer and the WPS button on the router.

What you mean by WPS button? Is it the button that allows to connect without using password?

Happy holidays for you too!

Yes, the WPS (web-protected-setup) button looks like two interlocking arrows commonly. Pressing that and the button on your printer should allow them to connect automatically.
