Thanks, Elfturtle, for that tip!

Unfortunately, when I typed "regedit" into my "Search Programs and Files" box, what popped up was just plain "regedit" - with no ".exe" but with a tiny, greenish, diagonally tilted, heart-shaped symbol overflowing with dice-like bits, a symbol placed just ahead of that "regedit" title...plus the explanation "File Description:  Registry Editor"....which, when I clicked on it, took me to another pop-up called "User Account Control" and featuring the question "Do you want this program to make changes to your comuter?"  The program name was "Registry Editor" identified as published by Microsoft.

How can I get to Square One from there:  by ACTIVATING this "Registry Editor"?

to open up registry editor, simply click "Start" > "Run" & type regedit

or simply you can use shortcut to open up "Run" in Windows

using Windows key + R

Btw, has anyone figured out how to fix this popup in Windows 8/8.1 ??

Does this not work for Windows 8/8.1? I did it on a Windows 7 machine at work and it worked fine.

In windows 8 / 8.1 / (10?)

1. Right click the windows icon in taskbar (lower left corner of your display)

2. Left click ’Control panel’

3. In control panel, left click search box (upper right corner)

4. Type ’printer’ and press enter

5. Left click on ’Devices and Printers’ (Green big text)

6. Scroll down and look up for your printer, RIGHT click your printer icon / name

7. Left click on ’Printer properties’

8. Left click on ’ports’ tab

9. Uncheck the box ’Enable bidirectional’

10. Left click ’Apply’ or ’OK’

Worked for me with windows 8.1, thanks for sensingsys for the tip!
