I have the same problem with HP Officejet Pro 8600.  Using the setup cartridges for now, but will switch over to new ones soon, and am hoping it goes away.  attached is the screen shot of my computer after a day.

Be sure to read the earlier posts, as there is a perfect solution that cured my printer issue.  As I recall, it required a minor change in the registry that you can make easily.  Good luck!

I am a computer novice.  How do I :

Browse to HKLM\Software\Hewlett-Packard\HPDJ Printing System Config\then your hp model.  When you click on the key, there will be some items listed in the right hand side.  If you have one labeled hpdjenablestatusclient, the value is probably going to be 1.  Change it to 0.

where do I " Browse"   Many thanks.  The pop ups are really annoying, and I can't afford the original carts.

In order to change registry values you have to use a program that is already on your PC called regedit. On an XP PC click Start, click Run, type in regedit and press enter.  In my earlier post I stated that this procedure had cured my problem, but it came back - this thread is very old and I am not sure what I finally did to get rid of the popups but I think it was as follows.

Click Start, click Settings, click Control Panel, click Printers and Faxes, select your printer (do not double click), click  File, click Properties, click Ports, clear the tick box labelled 'Enable bidirectional support'.  For other operating systems than XP the procedure will be very similar.

Try this first as it is far safer than altering the registry. If you do alter the registry be sure to back it up first (in regedit click File, click Export and save the file to eg your desktop).

I cannot thank you enough.  I was getting those annoying pop ups every time I printed plus a bunch inbetween.   I am forever in your debt.  Neil

Forgive my ignorance, Fratz, but....where do I find my "registry"?  I looked under "devices & printers," but didn't find it there.  Should I re-run the set-up disk for my Officejet 6700 to find it?

Also...what substitute ink source have you found best for taking the place of HP's expensive OEM stuff?

TIA!

One quick P.S., Fratz:   I'm kind of amazed to see such helpful hints right here.  Doesn't it make sense to assume HP monitors traffic here and shouldn't you/we therefore expect HP to devise some way of blocking the ingeniously simple maneuver you've outlined?   Finally, would it make sense, in your view, to decline any & all HP messages inviting any of us to "update" or "upgrade" whatever unit we have (mine, as I've already mentioned, is an Officejet 6700)....to shut the door to any attempt electronically to "retrofit" our machines to neutralize your solution?

Please see post by Fratz on 12/17/10 because it worked for me and many others. This solution resolved this issue once and for all. It was driving me crazy, especially when I was in a hurry!

I installed a new HP D1660 on an XP SP3 machine. The D1660 was replacing and HP Business Inkjet 1200. The install (multiple times) went flawless. But every print causes about 20-25 of the same pop-up stating:

"Genuine HP Print Cartridges Installed. Black, Tri-color.

HP Vivera Inks works with HP Printers to produce great results, time after time."

Again, a single print produces 20-25 of these pop-ups and regardless of whether I check "In the future, do not show this information," they keep coming back every printout. I've gone through the registry looking for any toolbox entries, looked in startup (MSConfig and registry), and I can't find what is causing these pop-ups. The user is ready to throw the printer away and get a new one.

Has anyone seen this and know how to fix it?

Thanks in advance!

Hi Rondack,

You can find your registry by going to:

  • start, look for the search box that says "Search Programs and Files"
  • type "regedit" and you will see "regedit.exe
  • open regedit.exe
