Auto duplex printing gone

HP Recommended
HP Envy 4520
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Just installed the latest update to the software and now the printer will only duplex manually.  For the past year it printed on both sides.  In setup, there is no option to select automatic duplexing.

@Cdent

This is a great location to get assistance! I read your post and see that you are getting issues printing on both sides on your printer. I would like to help you resolve this issue.

  • To avoid page ordering issues, load enough blank paper into the input tray to fully complete your print job.
  • Open the document that you want to print, click File then click Print.
  • Select the name of your printer, then click Printer Properties or Preferences, or Printer Setup, depending on what displays.
  • Locate the Print on Both Sides or Two-sided printing menu or option, then select the binding or page flip option depending on if you want the document to read like a booklet or a tablet.
  • Click OK, then click Print.
  • Remove the printed first side pages from the output tray, then tap the stack on a flat surface to align the pages.
  • Load the printed first side pages into the main input tray. How you load the pages depends on if you have a rear load input tray or a front load input tray.

Click here and follow the document to perform the above steps.

Let me know if that works.

Cheers.

Thanks for taking the time to reply, but the problem is that the printer has suddently lost the ability to AUTOMATICALLY duplex print.  I never had to turn the paper over manually until I installed the latest software update - the printer would turn the paper over by itself.  I don't want to have to do it manually.

Hello, @Cdent

I see that you were interacting with @sandytechy20. I'd like to jump in with a suggestion 🙂

I would like you to perform a clean install of the printer drivers. Here are the steps:

·         First, unplug the USB cable from the printer if present.

·         Go to Control panel – Programs and feature – Select all the HP Envy printer entries and uninstall them.

·         Now go to Control panel – Devices and printer – Select all the printer entries and remove the device.

·         Press the "windows key" + "r" to get the "Run" window open - Type "printui.exe /s" (There is a space between .exe & /) and press enter.

·         Under print server properties, go to drivers - remove any entry there as well.

·         Again, go to the Run window, type – “c:/programdata” – Go to Hewlett Packard folder, remove any printer related folders & files.

·         Restart your computer.

·         Now click http://hp.care/2p9yTIq to install the software.

·         Connect the USB cable if prompted and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.

Those steps should do the trick, let me know the outcome!

Good luck 🙂

Hi Dvortex.  Thanks for trying to help, but I'm pretty sure there is a problem with the software provided with the update.  I followed your directions completely, but when I go to printer properties to select duplex printing, the only option offered is manual duplex - the printer will not automatically duplex print.  Since it did duplex automatically for the 6 months since I purchased the printer, and just stopped when I installed the April 24 update, I'm fairly certain the software update has caused the problem.

Hello, @Cdent

Please try and install the printer using the Windows built-in drivers. If the issue is with the original printer drivers, then this will help us fix the issue.

Go to http://hp.care/2nxKJv8 and follow the steps listed there.

Once the printer is installed with the default windows drivers, then try to change the duplex print settings. That should help you fix the issue.

I hope that answers your concern adequately. Let me know!

Cheers 🙂
