Thank you for your reply to my question.  However, with respect it was not helpful in this case.  As I stated in my question, I had successfully set up the printer on my friends new IPad pro - ie the printer was showing as reachable in the wifi settings.  I have been using an air printer on my own Apple devices for many years.

But the problem is that printing on her device is not automatic.  If I select print on the device, it tells me to go to the settings and re select the printer, whereas on mine it enables me to select the printer without having to go to wifi settings to deselect the internet hub and re select the printer.  Then of course if I want the internet to be automatic, I have to go back to settings to reselct the hub.  Which I do not have to do on my own?

My experience tells me that this is something in the set-up of the new printer that was wrong and needs updating, but if you dont agree then perhaps you can help me to correct this problem.

Many thanks Gill

Hi @gillybilly48,

Thank you for replying,

As I understand you have a very peculiar issue with your printer. Since it does use any software, once the printer is connected Wireless it should be able to print from your iPad. If you are having this issue, I would personally suggest you try our HP Printers - Print and Scan from the HP AiO Printer Remote App (Android & Apple) and see how it works.

I hope this helps. Let me know how it goes for further assistance.
