Brand new HP 4650 printer. Set up went fine. When it came time to test print, it had background ghost images, mostly text. I have tried printing from other sources and websites and it happens from any source I try.  On printer settings I have tried Best, Default, Draft and they all do the same thing. I am using regular printer paper and the ink is straight from the HP box the printer came from.

Hi! @2goodeyes, Welcome to HP forums.

I understand when you print from your printer it is printing ghost images.

Don't worry I will to help you out.

Have you tried performing a copy from your printer? Does the issue persist?

Please uninstall the printer software from your MAC and install the latest printer software and check if it helps.

Click Finder in the Dock.
In the menu bar, click Go, click Applications, then open the HP or Hewlett-Packard folder.
If HP Uninstaller is in the folder, double click it, then follow the on-screen instructions to uninstall the software.
If HP Uninstaller is not in the folder, continue to the next step.
Click and drag the HP or Hewlett Packard folder to the Trash icon in the Dock.
In the menu bar, click Go, click Go to Folder, type /Library/Printers, then click Go.
The Printers folder opens.
Click and drag the HP or Hewlett Packard folder to the Trash icon in the Dock.
Restart the Mac.
Right-click or Ctrl + click the Trash icon, then select Empty Trash.

Please update the printer software using this link.

Also, Refer this article to further troubleshoot print quality issues.

Let me know if this works!

Have a wonderful day ahead! 🙂

Hello MrRobot,

Thanks for trying. I did everything you said and it made no difference. I am still getting the same ghost images.

@2goodeyes, It's great to hear from you again. I was indeed waiting for your response.

I appriciate your efforts for trying out the steps.

Try resetting the print system on your MAC and check if it helps.

Click the Apple menu, and then click System Preferences.
Click Printers & Scanners, Print & Scan, or Print & Fax.
Right-click (or Control + click) anywhere inside the Printers window, and then click Reset printing system.
Click Reset or OK.
If prompted, type your username and password, and then click OK.
The printing system resets.
Turn off the printer, wait 5 seconds, and then turn on the printer.
Wait until the printer is idle and silent.
In the Printers window on the Mac, click the Add button .
Select your printer from the list, and then click Add.
It might take a few seconds before your printer displays in the Printers list.

Let me know if this helps!

Have a great day ahead! 🙂
