I cannot find a black ink cartridge to fit the printer. It is the 'slim' black cartridge on the very left-hand side (marked with a |><| symbol). The black XL cartridge is fitted, but the display message is "one or more cartridges appear to be missing"
Also, the printer will not scan or copy with the cartridge missing.
Where can I buy the missing black cartridge? Thanks in advance.

The cartridge on the left end, the same size as the color cartrdiges, is the Photo cartridge, not the Black cartridge. You can buy it in the store or from HP or others online.
The "bow tie" cartridge is called the Photo cartridge.
The 564 black cartridge has a pentagon on the cartridge but a circle on the box.... The Photo cartridge has a bow tie on the cartridge and a camera on the box.
The document here may help. It is available in the standard or XL size.
