Having left my printer turned off for a week, I reactivated it to install the new cartridge HP had sent me. I thought I'd test it before hand and, hey presto, the **bleep** thing works.

This is the only solution that has worked for anyone - turn it off for a week.

So why did HP claim a new black cartridge was necessary? Why did I have to waste half of over £50-worth of coloured ink printing test pages? Why will they not acknowledge this as a major issue with their printers?

Hi, I own a 3525 HP all in one printer and black don't work. All the other colors are correctly printed. The product is in warranty period. Already tried all troubleshooting guides, nothing helped.

Having in mind the first message of Ciara_B, is it valid for Romania too? I bought my printer from Carrefour hypermarket. Usualy the product sold by them must be returned for warranty issues to them too. Or I must contact the HP division from Romania?

I  send it to the HP service in Romania and they will replace the printer.

This 5520 is several years old, out of warranty. It was idle for 6 months while I was using another printer. I installed a new HP branded XL black cartridge, and there's no black in either color or BW mode. I have run all the diagnostics, upgraded firmware and PC software, cleaned and aligned stuff, used a pin on the cartridge vent for good measure, and still there's no black printed. HP will charge $25 for phone support for this issue. Before I commit to that, I want to know how likely it is that HP will replace a printer that's several years old. BTW the printer and I are in Australia.

If black is not printing on one of the following printer models, please follow the standard troubleshooting steps outlined in the links below (such as checking ink levels, checking cartridges are vented & seated properly, run a Printhead Clean, verify you have the latest Firmware etc.)

If these steps do not resolve the issue, please contact HP phone support (even if the printer is out of warranty), as you may require a replacement.

I also had this problem -and bought a new printer. However, before even taking the new one out of the box - I unplugged the HP 6520 and plugged it back in.  Ran the clean printhead again and lo and behold--- I am now able to print in all colors including black.

?!?!?  Am happy - since I had more ink cartridges on hand and you can't buy a new printer that uses the same ink!

I removed the black rubber mounted on the printhead and it is now working fine. I think the new cartridge does not perfectly fit and touch the metal  part of the print head, causing the black ink not to flow properly.

Thanks
