Ciara - Can you message me as well?  I have the same problem with the PhotoSmart 5525.  Everything prints but black and replaced all cartridges, ran calibration, cleaned printheads etc.

I have been reading this string with great interest. It seems that I, too, have the same problem as many other HP printer owners. I am using a Photosmart eStn C510 series and my black stopped working straight after we had had a power cut.

I had to change all but the black and yellow inks anyway (all genuine HP inks - all very pricey) and then the black would not print, so I put in a new one, even though the ink level was adequate. The printer sounds as if it is correctly working but there is nothing on the page, not even a faint imprint.

I find it hard to believe there is no-one I can talk to (apart from a costly call to the US) and Ciara (who has been kind enough to private message people) is obviously not allowed to just blatantly put the answer on the forum.

My printer is now unplugged and I will try again tomorrow, but I have high blood pressure and going to bed very angry last night did not do my health much good.

I work in a very large hospital who is in the throes of changing all of its computer software to HP (indeed, our I.T. department has now been taken over by this company) and I am somewhat alarmed that they are making a HUGE mistake.

In summary, I am hoping that unplugging for 24 hours may have some benefit, but I would appreciate a private message from Ciara too, to put my mind at rest.

I had the same problem. Spent three frustrating hours on the phone with a succession of HP staff. They kept running me through the same algorithms to no avail. Then they kept reassuring me that they would "upgrade" me to a new printer for shipping costs of $150. It turned out the upgrade was to a much cheaper printer than what I had. They said they called it an upgrade because it was released at a later date. Then they offered to sell me a new printer cartage assembly and left me on hold for twenty minutes until I finally gave up. Is this company for real? And what is this forum anyway but a self imposed penal colony for unhappy customers who think that somebody is listening.

I have had my Photosmart 6520 for approximately 4 months and just had to replace my black ink. I am now having the same problem as everyone else -black is not working properly.

I checked my warranty status and it said it expired on 7-14-2013 yet i didn't buy it until SEPTEMBER 2013. 2 month difference!

What do I do to not only fix my warranty problem, but to fix this ink problem. I swear by HP... now not so much!

Hi @Ciara_B,

I have the same problem with my printer that suddenly  stopped printing black. My printer is just out of waranty so I tried all the different things on hp forums but nothing works. I have have changed black ink twice already but it still does not print black but prints other colors fine. Could you please let me know what can be done before I continue wasting money and time?

Thanks!

Unfortunately this problem is found in several models of HP printers. If you have cleaned the printheads multiple times and have tried a new cartridge, there is not much else that can be done. Buying a new print head would solve the problem, but probably just a temporary fix. The cost of the printhead would be close to that of a new printer and you would have to install it yourself. Buying a new printer would probably be the wise thing to do. I would do some searching online and find a manufacturer who stands behind their products. Obviously HP does not fit into this catagory as they are oblivious to people having trouble with their printers not printing black, while the colors print fine.
