HP photosmart C4280

I would like first to know if the black ink for paper printers is always pigment based and water-based? if yes, instead of buying again water-based is it possible to change in solvent-based? Thank you in advance for your answer!

Most printers for printing on plain paper use pigmented black water based inks.  Some printers use dye based black.

You cannot replace the cartridges in the Photosmart c4280 with solvent based inks for a few reasons:

  • Solvent based inks require different operating temperatures and firing voltages.
  • Solvent based inks haeve different drying characteristics that would require different servicing routines in th printer to prevent clogging.
  • Solvent based inks may not be compatible with the printhead and servicing materials.  Using solvent based inks may cause delamination of the printhead  and/or cause problems in the servicing mechanism.

There are printers designed for printing on plastics with solvent based inks.  I do not know of any HP branded consumer products for this application.
