I am using my "old" HP deskjet 722C printer with a Windows 7 system.  I am concerned that HP may stop making cartridges for this printer since it is old (I bought it in 1999).  It still works flawlessly & I would like to continue to use it until support for Windows 7 ends in 2020.

Is there an expiration on HP's cartridges for this printer?  If so, is there any way I can extend the shelf life by the way I store them?

For unopened (still in package) cartridges then I'd suggest a cool dry place rather than the fridge. 8 yrs is a long time though, so of course there'd be no gaurantees on what condition the ink would be in by then. As they say, nothing lasts forever! (sounds like a song title Smiley Happy

I would suggest to continue just purchasing on an as-need basis. They should still be available for purchase for some time as there are still lots of folks out there with the compatible printers.

BTW, there's a link below with the specs for the HP45 cartridge (has info on maintenance & storage)

Hi justkay

These cartridges have a warranty ends date on them (more details HERE ). They won't 'expire' when that date is reached, the date is when it's "warranted to be free from defects in materials and workmanship".

As regards storing, there are some details in the link below

Hope this helps

Thank-you for your information.

I am wondering if there is a way to store the UNOPENED , sealed HP cartridges so that they will still perform in the future.  I was thinking of buying like a dozen of them & keep them in a cool dry place, opening one as I need it.  Since we are talking about potentially 8 years, that seems like a long time to me for them not to degrade.  Someone had told me that if they were stored in the refrigerator, they would last longer.   Someone else said your ink cartridges would last indefinitely.
