Envy 4520

I've been trying to print stickers from my Envy 4520, but the paper keeps getting jammed. I checked the support website to look at supported paper types, but I didn't find the clarification I was looking for about whether or not I could use my sticker paper. I also checked the support community, and the only question similar to mine had an answer that didn't help my situation. I made sure to only load one sheet at a time, and that it had no folds or wrinkles. The paper is standard letter sized, about as thick as cardstock but more pliable. It's matte on the printing side and has a glossy film on the back that I don't print on. I set my paper type in the printer as specialty-matte, but no matter what I do it just keeps getting jammed. Is there any way I can print these stickers from my Envy 4520, or should I just go out and pay to use a commercial printer?

My Opinion

I think the glossy back is the problem - at least, it is likely one of the problems.

The paper back on typical label paper is not so slippery - most printers will handle at least some label printing.

Glossy-backed "sticker" paper is not listed as a supported paper type.

We see these "sticker" questions every month - frequently the question mentions a "Cricut" paper type - same issue - the paper slides, jams, won't align (or stay aligned).

Higher grade (for example top-of-line OfficeJet Pro models) can print on a variety of papers.  Is glossy-backed sticker paper included?  Likely not, in my opinion, though these models might have a better chance of working at all.  (Better hardware.)

Older printers are likely to have more problems overall - worn gears, worn rollers, for example.

There are likely some home remedies you could try - none of which would guarantee results and all of which might just leave you worse off (for example, paper stuck in printer, labels peeling off and sticking everywhere, sort-of working but ruining sheets and sheets of sticker paper).

Yes, I do realize that the sticker paper makers say printers will print their paper.

No, I don't know of a printer that will actually do this consistently.

Check the 'net and see what people say about their printers and whether the printer will print on glossy-backed sticker paper.
