Hi guys,

I am in a bit of desperation here and hoping someone can help.

I have HP 125nw printer connected over WiFi. I can print to it from my phone via AirPrint, from my Mac, so it works fine.

On windows 8.1, however, I cannot print. When I send to the printer, the job appears on the print queue for a fraction of a second and then disappears with nothing printed.

Now, I CAN print if/from:
- Application that I run as Admin (so say, Word will not print, but if run it with Admin rights - it will)
- Windows built-in applications, like Notepad will print fine, though I suspect they run as admin be default.
- Metro apps will print too. But again, I think that's because they have elevated permissions.

Windows cannot print test page either - says "Printing test page failed". I tried HP's Print Doctor and it says no problems with the printer and can print a test page. However, it runs itself with elevated permissions too, so that explains it.

What I tried so far:
- Reboot
- Completely remove and clean all printer drivers and reinstalling new versions via both uninstall and HP clean utility.
- Disabling windows and Kaspersky firewall.
- Stopping, staring print spooler service.
- Giving "Everyone" permissions to all sorts of Temp folders.
- Cleaning the contents of Windows/System32/spooler/drivers folder
- Disabling UAC
- Restarting and resetting printer itself to factory settings.
- Checking windows logs.

Obviously, this is some sort of windows permission problem, though my user account is Admin.
Did anyone had a similar problem?

Hi @inflynx ,

I see that you are having issues with other users on the same computer aren't able to print.  I am happy to be able to help you as best I can.

I have provided a document for you to set the permissions for other users on the computer.

To set or remove permissions for a printer.

Hope this helps.

Have a nice day!
Thank You.

Hi,

Many thanks for the link.

Unfortunately that didn't help - all my users have "Print" permissions, incuding "Everyone".

My own account is Admin, as I still can only print if I ran applications with elevated permissions.

Hi inflynx,

Running a program as administrator means that the program has more access to the computer when it runs: It has elevated privileges. This is often necessary to do in Windows to ensure that certain programs run properly.

To launch an application with Admin creds in a limited account, create a shortcut to the application in the limited account. Right-click the shortcut > Properties Add the following to the beginning of the target line.

C:\Windows\System32\runas.exe /savecred /user:Administrator

Then launch it once using the shortcut and enter the Administrator password. All subsequent launches will no longer require you to enter the password.

For further assistance, please contact Microsoft on this issue.

Thank You.

Hello, i have the same problem as the one who created this post. But im having problems not only with printting, but with all aplications. They don't run well unless i run them as admin, with only one account on the computer.

e.g. dropbox wont update unless i install it as admin, word won't print, etc.

Hope you can help me,

regards

Hi @Sebas_Are ,

I see that you are having issues printing without Admin rights too and all the applications also are affected. I would like to help you resolve this issue.

The is more a operating system setting, which I am not to familiar with for user accounts settings, but I did find out a few things that might help.

I have provided a document with some steps for the issue for not being able to use the applications with other user accounts to try. Go to the section for To allow and block specific programs.

Managing User Accounts and Parental Controls.

In the control panel, open Network and Sharing, turn off the password protected sharing to see if the limited accounts now can print.

For further assistance, please contact Microsoft on this issue.

Please let me know the outcome.

Have a wonderful day!
Thank You.

Sorry to bring this up, but I just bought an Officejet Pro 8620 and also have this issue. I'm on Windows 7 x64 and it's connected via USB. Previously I had a Deskjet D2460 and never had a problem.

From what I've tested, these print:

-Paint

-Paint.Net

-Notepad

And these don't print:

-Wordpad

-Word

-Excel

-Test page from Windows' printer properties

The first two don't display any error, the document simply appears and disappears instantly in the printer's queue. Excel is the only of the programs I've tested which at least displays an error message when trying to print. It says it may be a memory, network or cable problem, which of course are not the case. The test page just says it couldn't, like it happened to inflynx.

In order for these to print, I have to run them with administrator privileges, which I find really cumbersome and unnecessary. Can't I simply double click a .docx and print it?? :indifferent:

In the printer's security tab, "Everybody" has printing permission. I even gave "Everybody" all available permissions but nothing changed.

How can I solve this problem?

Thanks and regards,

Andrew

Hi @ALobpreis,

I read your post and see that you are having issues printing from the User Accounts. I will try to provide you with some information that will help.

I have provided a document for setting Security permissions for printing.

On a previous post, by downloading and running the Print and Scan Doctor allowed the other print jobs to print that were in the queue. It will diagnose the issue and might automatically resolve it. Find and fix common printer problems using HP diagnostic tools for Windows?

You may have to contact Microsoft for further assistance if the issue persists.

Feel free to click the Thumbs up button below if this helps.

Have a nice day!
Thank You.

Thanks again for your prompt reply.

The security permissions link explains what I already did, it doesn't seem to be a user permission issue in my opinion.

I downloaded Print and Scan Doctor and it found no problem, it could print the text page perfectly. But when it started, it asked for admin privileges!

I tested my problem again with the printer turned off, and it seems the issue lies in the driver. When I print with Paint and Notepad, the tasks go to the queue as expected. When I print with Word, the task goes to the queue and disappears after a fraction of a second, just like when the printer is on. I also installed back the D2460 and I can print there with no admin privileges, in the very Word instance that cannot print in the 8620.

I will try changing the drivers, with the ones that came on the CD and the latest ones from the web site.

Best regards,

Andrew

Hello,

I have researched this issue more and have found the following steps listed below have resolved this issue for other posters.

Try these steps to see if it will help.

Go to Start, Control Panel, User Accounts, Change User Account Control Settings.

Then drag the slider down to never notify, then restart your computer.

Hope this helps. Thank You.
